Depends on the video, I've found them to be both pretty terrible in some cases, and pretty good in others.

They vary from extremely helpful to extremely inappropriate. And also extremely funny, to extremely lame.

Overall, it's like slightly below average imo. Youtube often asks me stuff like, which one of these 3 brands have you heard of? Or, which one of these products would you consider buying? I used to just close out quick, but I try to enjoy them now and actually give them a decent answer since everything google offers is free, I might as well give back somehow.

They're missing the option for "So bad I go out of my way to avoid them"

Depends on the video/channel

Some videos the comments are absolutely hilarious.

Other times they are really interesting.

I think a lot of the time people only look at the comments on super popular videos, political videos or race-bait videos and then act like all comments are terrible.

On some comedy videos the comments are funnier than the video itself. ArchD n' Bacon_ is a great example of that:

I like how it ranges from "Not Good" to "Absolutely Outstanding". Doesn't seem biased at all.
