Can't believe that so many people like something so bad.

They absolutely gutted the gameplay. No jumping, no aerial combos, no aerial specials, no magic at all. Only two weapons. Nerfed Blades of Exile (barely have any range), only a couple bosses (and a series of pallet swapped trolls from Lord of the Rings).

Collecting shinies to play dress up and buff your numbers enough to have a chance. Cuz everything has to be Dark Souls now.

Ready to have the entire story spoiled? They climb a mountain. That's it. Nothing is established or built upon. There's a bit of lore to dig up, nothing is relevant. Cheap twist at the end.

Ascension was better, and they barely tried.

I was stupid and bought it anyway. While it was downloading and installing I watched some gameplay footage. Wound up watching people play all the way through the game. I was so sick of what I saw I uninstalled it without ever booting it up.

My favorite bit about that was when they go "Oh no, there's some fog on this one small tiny path, we can't go through the fog."

So naturally they go to another word, fight a massive war, get the fog remover magic stone, then go to the fog, go through the fog, and then go "Oh after all that the fog covered path led to a dead end. Let's climb the mountain instead then."

So they climb the mountain ,then go "Oh it turns out this was the wrong mountain. Whoops."

Which in a silly game would be hilarious but in a game claiming to be mature is just embarrasing. Reminds me of the "plot" of Ride to Hell Retribution were you chase a guy to a warehouse, then drive away, beat up some thugs to get the foreman's key to open the door to the warehouse.

Rather than you know, kick a window out or something

Kratos had hope, that's the whole point of the Pandora's Box power by the end. You can move on from crippling pain like that and find love again. Families have lost children due to disease or accidents and still went on to have more.

And he didn't destroy the world, he destroyed Greece.

New Kratos if alive no longer has hope. It left his body when he stabbed himself.

That's dumb and guts the story

Meanwhile at the sae time "Oh he got over all that but for some reason became neuortic about Zeus' death solely because it loosely benefits the plot of this game." is dumb.

You could replace Kratos in this game with some guy called Bill and apart from the goofy scene with Athena which would have to be cut, the game would lose literally nothing. That's how bland he is. That's how much it killed his legacy.

Kratos is now the same as some guy called Bill. He is no one. Just a generic gruff dad character.

And he didn't destroy the world, he destroyed Greece.

Greece is the world in God of War. Kratos didn't only bring the sun down in Greece, he didn't only cause the waters to rise to mountainous heights in Greece, he didn't cause fammine and disease to only occur in Greece.

Meanwhile sunny normal France looks on and goes "Man look at those drowning sunless greeks over there lol! They got no food and are all dead!"

You travel beteeen realms. Not countries in the new God of War

worth a run but i immediately traded it in + another game at 50% off for spider-man. was definitely worth it.

backtracking in gow was its biggest mistake because of the horrendous traveling methods available.

My brother in law is amazing at the game. He beat everything on hardest difficulty and beat the hardest enemy in the game flawlessly. The game looks amazing in motion. Haven't played it myself though.

i'm not good enough. those things are vicious

I had to drop the difficulty to get them, I'm garbage

I only had to do that with Sigrun or however her name is spelled (the Queen) and even then that fight was still hard.

So a guy gives a pretty well-thought-out explanation as to why he doesn't like something, and because you disagree with it, that makes him a contrarian? Everything that he wrote about when explaining his dislike for the game is completely valid. People aren't contrarians just because they have a different criteria for judging a game.

Fought the Valkiries on gmgow, it's literally insane. Beat them though. I had a little help from having maxed out red gear and highest tier red enchantments. But it's almost as if they didn't matter at all >_>

Most people who love it aren't a fan of the original series because it really tarnishes the original series.

It's a game designed for a new audience in the new generation. Which is why it's a shame that it destroyed a franchise for no reason.

From a story perspective?
Destroys Kratos' character arc.
Destroys the ending of 3
Destroys the Blades of Exile.

In God of War Kratos' ego leads him to killing his own family until he is consumed by rage so severe that he literally destroys the entire world in a mad quest for vengeance that serves no purpose and ultimately results in the destruction of everyone and everything including himself.

Actually he was fine and just went next door to another world that was also fine. Also he no longer gives a crap about his brother or family that he killed despite his skin being covered in their ashes. Now instead he forgot all of that and he's suddenly somehow upset about the father-son killing cycle, not the fact he killed his own daughter. or the fact he destroyed the entire world. Just his daddy who he hated despite killing in self-defense

And the Blades of Exile he was cursed with eternally? Turns out he could just take them off. Put em away like socks. Have a new loving family.

Kratos' journey is now meaningless, his family is now meaningless, his curse is now meaningless. If Loki got his spine ripped out by Thor and then everything exploded he could just go to another new world and start a new family there. We've established Kratos doesn't give a fuck 5 minutes later

And all Tension is lost because esstentially like Rick And Morty, no matter what Kratos does he can just "go to another world and live there happily with a new family." consequence free.

From a gameplay perspective?

Takes away the fun fighting, combos. Taking away the ability to jump,

Takes away the silliness, the gore, the speed, the traps, the boobs. Everything fun has been stripped to make it generic so it appears "mature."

Kratos no longer hauls ass he slowly wanders around getting in slapfights. Each more mundane than the last with the combat not being relevant of your skill, but instead "The level of your crafted gear"

And then the entire desire to make Kratos a hero and a "Good person" when he just isn't. If you even look once at any of the other games, he's a monster. He's utterly evil to the point where his redemption was self-sacrifice so other people can rebuild the world he destroyed.

Not the deepest character in the world but it is a character. He wasn't like any other character in gaming

Now Kratos is Joel, Kratos is Morgan Yu, Kratos is Vincent. He's every generic "dad" archetype in modern gaming. Bland, boring.

Which sucks and is bland on top of pissing on his old self.

Tldr:

Instead of really fun crazy silly games with personality. We have a meh generic game with no personality.

Could have called this Big McGee and the search for apples and the game would have sold just as well because it's so generic. There was no need to sacrifice the God of War Franchise for this.

Would be like calling the next Call of Duty Game "Oddworld Abe's Western Front" and having Abe jacking off while mass murdering Belgians with a machine gun. Even if you like the generic game/gameplay why did you have to do that to Abe? What was the point?

As much as you hate it it sold really well under the new formula.

So did The Last of US. They didn't call The Last of Us "Mega-Man Eternal" and make Joel Mega-Man.

The game would have sold just just as well if not better as a new IP because it was so utterly sexless, imagination lacking and generic.
