He's still on that 'stop taking everything so seriously' mess and preaching about optics whilst regularly inviting people like Ann Coulter and Milo to sit on those panels for a good old time. The overton window moves. The Bannons, Millers, and Coulters of the world aren't softening their rhetoric, which means American liberalism is actually moving further to the right. And this doesn't actual seem to bother alleged liberal, Bill Maher. He laughs and jokes as though he's got nothing at stake in this game. He actually night not. But then again he apparently sided with Roseanne after her show got cancelled, so perhaps those are his true priorities.

Twenty years of Republican praxis has made it clear that they will never side with a Democrat with anything if there is potential to mine political capital through contrast and conflict, unless they've already decided they're retiring. So the underlying assumptions of Bill's hobnobbing with right-leaning ideologues are wrong. But will the shows format ever change? Of course not. Bill doesn't know what he's doing, or he's too comfortable to care. With everything that's happened these past two years, money still says Bill will find time to tone-police me and to encourage them to sit down and have heart to hearts with people who pleasure themselves to the thought of ICE disappearing all the brown people on their blocks, and generally stop being so angry and nerdy. He's like the modern embodiment of the white moderate Martin Luther King warned activists about.
