Also I'd prefer not to have to hook it up to my TV (beyond the initial set up) so dual-screen games are kind of out >_>

Super Mario 3D World is amazing. If you don't have a Switch, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze are also amazing. The HD Zelda remasters are good.
Those are all possible to play GamePad only. --- Ghosts are cool. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Playing the Wii U without a TV isn't something I'd recommend. The GamePad's screen is very low-res and its battery life is horrendous.

Also __Cam__ is right. If you're playing off-tv you pretty much need to have the GamePad plugged in at all times. Hell you need it plugged in at all times no matter what you're doing. --- Ghosts are cool. ... Copied to Clipboard!

There are several games worth playing on Wii U:
Splatoon Mario Kart 8 Super Mario 3D World New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U Shantae and the Pirate's Curse The Wonderful 101 There are also plenty of good Virtual Console games. As far as battery life goes, I've never come close to running out, but I have the high-capacity battery. --- ()_() Hardcore - We'll probably be modded for this...
