East and West respectively.

Occidental means relating to or from the west. From the western world.
A Occidental person is a westerner.

Here's a definition from the dictionary.

Occidental -
something from the Western part of the world including Europe and America.

Occidental person -
a person born in the Occident or a member of a people of that region

Oriental
of, from, or characteristic of East Asia.

Oriental person
one who is a native of east Asia or is of east Asian descent

The epistemology of both words, are like I said earlier, don't have offensive undertones at all. They come from Latin words that mean East and West, and in olden times they refered to America and Europe as the Western World and East Asia as the Eastern World.

We actually still do this today.

We call the middle east... the MIDDLE EAST. Meaning in the middle between the west and east, near the east. And we still call China, Japan etc EAST Asia, and consider that to be the EAST. or the far east etc

So what is the backstory for the term easterner or westerner being a slur, I don't really understand.

Negro isnt a slur at all, a slur is just derived from it. There are black people that prefer to go by it. In English it is just old fashioned and not used much anymore so people get weird about it.

What is the history and context for oriental as a slur? Or Negro? Neither are slurs just previously used established terms. At this point imo it is weird to use them, but the stigma is dumb.

What makes colored appropriate? Is everyone else colorless?

I mean, you're right that combinations of sounds aren't inherently offensive and racist, but if you combine them with history and context, they can develop an additional definition that is considered a slur in certain contexts.

Colored is not a scientific term, opposed to the other two. And all these terms werent ever really slurs, definitely not the other two. Colored was used in the south as a normal thing with white and black people until pretty recently, but it is somewhat of a weird term, so that is whatever.
