Here's a definition from the dictionary. Occidental - something from the Western part of the world including Europe and America. Occidental person - a person born in the Occident or a member of a people of that region Oriental of, from, or characteristic of East Asia. Oriental person one who is a native of east Asia or is of east Asian descent The epistemology of both words, are like I said earlier, don't have offensive undertones at all. They come from Latin words that mean East and West, and in olden times they refered to America and Europe as the Western World and East Asia as the Eastern World. We actually still do this today. We call the middle east... the MIDDLE EAST. Meaning in the middle between the west and east, near the east.
