Assuming gender is what mankind has done for thousands upon thousands of years.

I am not convinced all the sudden we are so enlightened that assuming gender is wrong.
Part of why I am not convinced is becauae the rhetoric doesn't hold water.

So yes.

This. If a person acts irrational because I mispoke then fuck em. I only want to talk to people who don't get pissy over people not being 100% aware of everything.

Im honestly really confused by this post. As in, guys, bro, dude isnt gender neutral... but really though it is.

Id also disagree on the last part. Not a good person? Debatable. Someone with a double digit IQ and a mental disorder? Absolutely.

How? Guys, dude, bro may have started off as pronouns for males but over time they became gender neutral.

I don't care if you are a gender flux capacitor that identifies as a female fairy from the second sector of Universe 1, you start off as a dude to me, and then maybe you'll become my bro.

Yes, because 99% of the time you're going to be correct. The majority of potential mistakes would be really androgynous people or transgender people, and it's easy enough acknowledge the error and correct it. The only time I wouldn't care is if they flipped out and had some kind of "transtrender" attitude about it, but those people really don't seem to exist in reality.

People act like it's a huge fucking inconvenience, but who the hell cares? I have two options; I can be a dick out of some principle to try and start an argument so I can feel better about myself, or I can just use whatever term they prefer and lose absolutely nothing, while possibly gaining a normal conversation. I mean, out of politeness, I do a lot more inconvenient things, like holding doors open or holding an elevator, so who cares? It's not like I couldn't just ask what they prefer either. We already do that when we ask someone if they are Mr., Mrs., or Ms.

Uhhh, well, it says so in their profile right there, and again, I pointed out that you can always literally just fucking ask them, you know, like we do for every other fucking detail we find out about someone.

This model only wrote that recently, and a while after we worked together. Before it didn't specify so if I just assumed the person was female, I would have been wrong. I see the person tagged in photos on Instagram and refered to as "she" so those people are wrong too.

And why is this a problem? If the person corrects you, why do you take it as a personal offense? If you say, "Oh hi Mrs. Smith" and she says, "It's Ms., actually", are you going to race to the internet to complain about those damn, confusing honorifics?

Where did anyone say it was a problem? I asked in the topic "do you assume gender?" It's a yes or no question. I mentioned an example where I thought the person was a female but the person identifies as something different. So, it seems like assuming gender isn't always the best thing to do. In fact, the person in my OP made an Instagram story showing annoyance at people assuming that the person is female.

Maybe I over-read the situation, my mistake. I just don't even see why it's even an issue. When people ask not to assume their gender, they are saying that they don't appreciate when people assume their gender and continue to act as if that is their gender for no reason. It's really just become a rallying call for meme-loving trolls at this point. I don't think anyone is saying, "you need to police your instincts and knee jerk reactions because I will know if you think a certain way". So I really don't understand what the question is, I guess.
