Would this Industrial Wind Turbine Shadow Flicker bother you if it affected your home?

I didn't know people were opposed to Wind Turbines, or is it because it's in their neighborhoods?

Wind turbines should not be built so close to property that they're casting fucking shadows for God's sake. I would sue the government for the diminished value of my home.

Wind is stupidly dangerous and one of the least cost efficient means of generating clean energy.

You would almost certainly get more energy for less money by building a solar farm in the same spot you were going to build a wind farm.

I still want a large array of these types of wind turbines:

https://share-ng.sandia.gov/news/resources/news_releases/big_blades/

The ones who's blade can fold and sway when a Hurricane hits

https://news.stanford.edu/news/2014/february/hurricane-winds-turbine-022614.html

Then combine them with large & small turbines & dot the entire US coast line

To help reduce the effects of Hurricane as it approaches US Coastlines.

NIMBYISM affects many places.

Why else does SF have one of the largest Housing crisis.

It's because literally every neighbor nearby has a say in what houses can & can't go up.

So everybody is a NIMBY biyatch and tries to prevent new housing from going up and blocking their view.

People have been opposed to wind turbines here in southern Ontario for years. Even now after the government ignored them and the countryside was flooded with the bloody things you still see anti-wind signs and billboards all over rural areas.

Why do both if one is considered a lot more deficient than the other? Doesnt make sense.

Many countries in europe are actually non-nuclear or in the process of phasing it out

The main arguments tend to be related to the environmental impact of nuclear waste and perceived safety issues

Not every location is suited for Nuclear or want Nuclear in it's neighborhood.

The same with Wind.

Wind isn't suitable for every location.

Sometimes there is a right solution for a certain area.

That's not really what footprint means but it's a valid point regardless. In this case the land is being used for something and you're just adding turbines to it.

There are some valleys in America that are literally nothing but wind farms and I just don't really think building a dedicated wind farm is a cost effective idea.

why do we suddenly care about the impact clean energy has on birds

the total numbers killed are utterly trivial and pale before the impact that most other non-nuclear power sources have on wildlife populations (nuclear impact is pretty difficult to measure since it's so long term)

https://www.windpowerengineering.com/design/vertical-axis-wind-turbines/

Efficiency When the wind blows on the blades of a HAWT, all of them contribute to energy production. When wind blows on a vertical-axis turbine, only a fraction of the blades generate torque while the other parts merely go along for the ride. The result is comparably reduced efficiency in power generation.

Simply put, because power generation efficiency isnt as good, VAWTs arent as good long-term investments. This is ultimately why wind-energy developers have stuck with the HAWT. An owners greatest concern is simply generating as much power as possible over 20 plus years. Until recently, no prototype VAWT was close to the long-term generating capacity of horizontal-axis designs. Conventional VAWTs have no such optimization control, not yet, at least.

I don't, I'm just stating the facts.

Not all Solar Arrays kills birds, only a specific sub type does.

Obviously every source of energy is going to have it's set backs. Yet what's the option? No energy at all? That isn't an option, not in modern society. The choice is to keep working with the sources we have and work at making them safer or slowly transfer to an another safer source. The risks will never completely go away.

So pile them in.
