Calling for an investigation is not the same thing as making a judgement in a court case

Going "You need to definintatively prove a crime occured to the point that it would put away the suspect in a court case before we allow anyone to investigate your claim" is maddness

Instead of rape and sexual assault that people seem to strangely want to defend, imagine that someone broke into your house and stole your computer, valuables and trashed the place while you were away for the weeend.

You think you know who did it and go to the police, then they say "Can you prove who did it and when right now!?" you go "no" and they go "Oh well nothing we can do, fuck off you liar." and you're branded a lying attention whore for life.

This is the argument conservatives are making towards sexual assault victims and it's nutty.

You can't conflate investigations with the end judgement of a court case... The point of an investigation is to find evidence.

This is why police teach women if something happens they need to report it immediately. They are taught to not take a shower to preserve evidence. A lot of times women feel the need to clean themselves up but that is very damaging.

I think what Melania is saying is that it is *much wiser* to make sure you have evidence, otherwise you are taking a considerable risk in creating a shitstorm for yourself and others to endure. Look, I'm not saying I don't understand why a victim would still want to come forward when they know they don't have any evidence. I think we have to respect those influences and be understanding.
