The way double-elim usually works is that to avoid rematches, losing in the Winners bracket doesn't necessarily send you to the corresponding place in the Losers bracket. For example, I have Mega Man vs. Pikachu and Crono vs. Kirby happening twice, which could be avoided by just swapping around the characters who get sent to Losers round 2. Surely we would want would want to avoid rematches like this, right? I can hardly imagine popularity contest rematches being interesting to watch, unless the matches were stupidly close to begin with or some god-forsaken rally drama happens. If Mega Man gets 55% on Pika one day he's not going to lose the next.

I think making the later stages of the tournament last longer is a great idea (or one that prolongs our suffering, I guess), but I would like to see us get even more high-level matchups by structuring the Losers bracket better.

I think the rematches could be interesting. The bigger issue is... how the "winner" in winner's bracket does not get a 2nd chance if they lose the "final match". It's double-elimination, but not for the last match. Does not seem fair. Like if Link loses the final match he doesn't get a 2nd chance to win the title.

That is a good point. Maybe they could run the poll for an extra 24 hours if Link (or whoever won the Winners bracket) is losing at the end to simulate the bracket reset? Or just run the poll again. I wonder how that would interact with a megarally.

Link will win both, so it's not like it matters. If anything, it's a second chance for someone to take a crack at him, which, barring a rally, is lol.

You're correct, CBX isn't using the proper format for a double elimination bracket. Most double elimination brackets explicitly avoid all rematches until the finals.

You're right, that's the only flaw of this bracket. Fingers crossed we don't have to suffer through 4 exact rematches.
