So should lighter skinned hispanics, cubans, peruvians, and middle eastern people all be treated white?

If they look white. Because racism is based on what race you look like, not your actual heritage.

Well... the Nazis would disagree there (although thankfully they're either dead or ancient now). Some white supremacists groups might as well.

Cherokee Nation releases statement rebuking Liz Warren:

"Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery of DNA tests."

"Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

Canada research chair critical of U.S. senator's DNA claim to Indigenous identity

An American senator's release of a DNA test in defence of her claims to Indigenous ancestry has been met with backlash on social media from Indigenous academics and artists in Canada.

The idea that Indigenous heritage is defined by DNA was criticized Monday by many Indigenous artists, activists and scholars in Canada.

Kim TallBear, the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Peoples, Technoscience and Environment at the University of Alberta, issued a statement saying "For Elizabeth Warren to centre a Native American ancestry test as the next move in her fight with Republicans is to make yet another strike even if unintended against tribal sovereignty."

Pam Palmater, a Mi'kmaq lawyer and associate professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University said:

"If your only claim to Indigeneity is a quack DNA test or an ancestor from 400 years ago - you are NOT Indigenous. Defining Indigenous by blood and race couldn't get more colonial if she tried."

Anishinaabe podcaster @gindaanis said:

"Seems like a good time to remind everyone that DNA doesn't make you anything."

Alicia Elliott, a Haudenosaunee writer, said:

"The Cherokee Nation already said Elizabeth Warren isn't a member of their nation. That should have been the end of this discussion. That Warren has come out with DNA results DESPITE this proves her concern is in gaining the approval of racist white ppl instead of Indigenous ppl"
