I dont want to focus too much on this specific instance, but just in general when things in science start to contradict religious/cultural beliefs

I mean this is just a tweet, the creation story can be more nuanced then her short tweet

Creation stories are cultures using myths to explain their origins

She actually has a point. Since people can always be tied to several different cultural groups, and since their is nothing genetically inherent about the experience of a group in the world, and since she isn't visibly First Nations/Native American she can't even claim to understand what they are going through.

The point is that those DNA tests are fucking pointless, anyway, because not only do they mean nothing about your experience in the real world, but they also mean very little about your capabilities. Saying, "I'm 1/64th Cherokee" is basically the equivalent of saying, "It's okay, I have a black best friend!".

This reminds me of when students at some university were trying to disregard modern science as racist because its from the point of view of westerners/europeans aka the colonizers. And that 3rd world tribal witchcraft was just as valid as Isaac Newtons teachings.

Or she simply acknowedged she has an ancestor in her past who was native american and one side of her family was treated poorly because of that. She isnt claiming to be immersed in native culture

For sure, I'm not saying she did. I honestly don't know enough about her to weigh in either way, I was just pointing out that the tweet had a point that DNA doesn't make you part of a culture or a history.
