Nothing wrong with with using words like shout or whisper, but when you say stuff like so-and-so proclaimed, youre replacing an invisible word (said) with a jarring word that doesnt change the meaning at all. Same with adverbs. Theyre fine to use, but they need to be severely limited or else you fall into the trap of saying people did things in an -ly manner, instead of actually describing how they did it. This all falls into show dont tell, with the dialogue descriptors being mostly useless since the actual dialogue and context of it is supposed to allow you to know how someones speaking. The editors Ive worked with hacked my early works apart before I could learn this. I've been coming here on and off since 03' been an active board contributor since 04' there just doesn't seem to be the happiness and joy that there was back then now. We're on a gaming board, it's a leisure activity for the most part, there's always going to be deviants but for everyone to turn heel is just disheartening and makes people who really want to have passionate discussions, learn from one another, help each other, and other positive things not want to contribute because the people simply do not deserve it.
