Not sure that's possible nor would it be ideal since she has a moment with Luke at the end of the movie.

And neither Leia or Han sharing a scene with Luke in these movies would have been even more of a disgrace

Yeah that would've been fucking awesome and absolutely appropriate as the character's last act of heroism to coincide later with Luke's but that would've required a total rewrite or just a far better script in general

My money is on "she's on a diplomatic mission to recruit all the people who failed to respond during the last attack" so she's off screen the whole time.

It's not that it's a stretch for force flight to be a power. The problems are:

1. She should be too dead from the vacuum or cold or radiation or the blast or etc to force anything.
2. Leia has zero training in the force that we know of. Neither does Rey in 7 but at least Rey, you know, shows interest in it instead of ignoring it for 40 years before suddenly deciding to be able to do it.
3. It looks stupid as hell.
4. She does nothing after that point that someone else couldn't have done, except brandish the force powers she just now decided she was going to be able to use and get kissed by Luke in order to open the plot hole of why he was tangible then when he was completely intangible monents later. In fact, the one time she's asked to do something, she literally says "what are you looking at me for?"
5. Now they have to kill her off-screen between installments instead of using her perfectly good death scene. Alternatively, they could make a CG ancient wrinkly Carrie Fischer but why on Earth would you choose either of those options over the decent death scene they already had?

It really feels like she was supposed to die there in the original script, but they shot this "make it a tribute to the actress" version just in case CF dies, and then she died so that was that.

I think it's the opposite. I think she was always scripted to live, but when Carrie Fisher died they ended up in a bad spot, and while the classy thing to do would be to give her a proper sendoff by altering the script, Rian Johnson was so far up his own ass with his "subvert expectations" nonsense that he HAD to keep her alive, because everyone expected them to kill her off since the actress was dead.

Apparently to some people at least. Also you can't mention how Rian Johnson likes to troll the audience too. You're just a hater!

It's not like the Force isn't magic or anything and couldn't preserve someone in space for longer than normal.

I mean, we can criticize how it was shot and presented all day and that's fine. Personally, I think the biggest failing is the fact that since Carrie Fisher's emotive range suffered as she aged, we had to stare at her, and I mean this in the sweetest way possible, derpface while she was floating through space.

And they probably hung too long on the shot.

If Anakin can survive getting his limbs amputated and laying next to a bed of lava for an extended amount of time, then the stunt that Leia pulled should be considered believable.

The problem is that it was Leia who did it. It's like Johnson heard everyone complaining about the Mary Sue problem in 7 and decided to up the stakes.

You are not wrong. Kathleen & JJ explicitly said that even though Billie told them she'd be fine with them doing a CGI Leia, that they had no intention of doing it. And there wasn't a significant amount of TLJ footage unused, but JJ had enough leftover TFA stuff to write her out with.

And has no clear signs of any other issues, hence perfectly healthy. Comas result from serious traumatic injuries when not caused by drugs, you don't just fucking get up and walk around right after waking up, cane or no cane. It's trash writing.

She's the daughter of Force Jesus. If there's any non-DBZ character that it's believable for them to wake up from a coma fully healed, it would be Luke or Leia.
