Excuse me, who are you?

i do think corrik is onto something here. it seems like in private chatrooms related to board 8 some people are, at times, a lot more honest than on the board. while i can't say much about the discord as i don't go there, i remember back in the day i made the mistake of searching for my username in the AIM board 8 chat and saw a lot of vitriol about me that i didn't see on the board. and no, this wasn't because i was "ignoring what people said about me on the board" as i'm very much aware of that.

i don't particularly care as i'm not demanding that people who don't like me say shit about me to my face. but i don't get why there apparently always has to be a weird shadow world to board 8 where people say what they REALLY think.

note that i'm not necessarily saying those people corrik quoted were all talking behind his back. like, i don't think veryinsane's statement on the discord that corrik isn't fun to play mafia with is a super controversial thing that he would never say on the board or anything. i'm moreso speaking generally.

i think when search is implemented to the degree it is in discord people are quite aware that anything they say will be found when the person inevitably turns up one day. i know that anything i say i'm astutely aware the person is going to see it one day. of course, i'm quite happy to tell people what i think regardless.

I mean, I think everyone at times say stuff about people to others because they are going with the flow of the conversation or whatever and think it won't get back to the person. It is just relatively disappointing to see it though. Not that anything I quoted above was particularly too bad (though I didn't quote everything also).

but to give an example, i can't imagine scarlet saying "seriously i fucking hate corrik" on the board, ESPECIALLY since he's constantly attacking other people (especially me) for making "twitter-level posts" here. if he IS saying shit like that on the board he's a fucking hypocrite, and if he isn't he's talking behind corrik's back.

Scarlet has told me he hates me on GameFAQs before to be fair. He was mad that I didn't know exactly what he wanted to hear in a comic question topic to him when I responded with banter instead of the seriousness and knowledge he was hoping for.

Which shows how silly this board is because when he was leaving board 8, I was the one who talked to him and tried to convince him to stay and not to let others dictate his actions and so on and that I enjoyed talking to him.

Just interesting that I would go out of my way to help anyone who asked me to here if I was able to, while many just respond with vitrol towards me even on a platform that I am rarely even on.

i don't think that's a great excuse, though. for as much shit as the mods on this site get (a lot of it justified), the moderating here is actually pretty lenient. i think it's rather stupid if you're going to be dishonest just because you're super afraid that you're going to get a 3KL. karma is meaningless anyway.

It is not hard to express displeasure with someone without being moderated anyways. .

It is not hard to express displeasure with someone without being moderated anyways. .

heavily agree with this post. the only time i got modded in all my dealings with supernicedog was openly saying "you are a fucking moron" which even i am very aware is across the line. the gap between "will get modded" and "dishonesty" is enormous.

i don't post in the discord and have no interest in doing so, so if you talk shit about me over there the chances of me seeing it are a lot more slim than if you do so on the board. if you deliberately only talk shit about me on the discord to lower the chances of me seeing it, it's not quite "talking behind my back" because i could potentially see it still, but it's definitely reminiscent of it.

it's just natural for chats to become cliquey, and in the flow of real time chat a LOT of random topics come up that aren't significant enough to broach in a forum post. bringing up people outside of one's clique usually happens in that context, and that's going to include sometimes talking shit about them. with the exception of a meta-discussion like this i'd probably never state explicitly on board 8 that i think, say, ltm is a dumbass because it wouldn't come up, but i could totally see myself dropping a line like "ltm is a total dumbass" in a chat if it's even tangentially related to the conversation.

so i think it's more about chat dynamics than about being two-faced or whatever, or at least it is for me. it's also worth noting that the b8 server has a ton of different channels which are quite different in terms of who reads them and talks in them and how much gossip they feature. i have no interest in the main channel but have used others in the past.

The only thing that sucked about searching my name on Discord was one person said something blatantly false to turn people against me and I wanted to defend myself... but it was over a year ago so who even cares anymore. I wouldn't care if I hadn't just learned about it.

It did kind of suck to learn that a lot of people I never even interact with seem to hate me. Like, Steiner really seems to hate me and I'm pretty sure we've never even spoken on the board.
