Outlast was a great game, arguably the best of the "Run away and hide in the dark you defenseless pansy" surival horror game genre.

Whistlerblower was more of the same. But good more of the same.

Then 2 was like... they took the worst parts about it with no improvements and made it worse with a terrible story and load of nonsense. It was like they took all of the negatives and ballooned them all up.

I mean compare to Amnesia. When they got to the 3rd one they knew the idea well was dry so they made Soma instead which was a really great game. Took a lot of the good stuff from Amnesia but knew the genre was getting stale so wrote an interesting story and put it in a new Sci-fi setting.

More people should play Soma.

Well it's pretty bad.

It's just a mesh of random horror torture porn ideas and nonsense vaguely strung together with some awful gameplay design and repition. No real understanding of plot or atmosphere.

I mean taken on it's own it's mediocre but taken as a sequel to 1.5 games that already did the same thing 4 times as well, it's pretty embarrasing.

Like watching Evel Knievel fall off a slow moving bicycle.

You're a bit off there. There was only one Amnesia game from that studio. A Machine for Pigs was a spin-off that they had nothing to do with, instead that was developed by The Chinese Room, the company that made Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

I was considering picking up both Outlast games if they go on sale for Switch for Halloween actually. So I shouldn't bother with two?

Play 1 and Whistleblower.

I wouldn't bother with 2 unless you've exhausted all other horror games.

Silent Hill, Amnesia, Resident Evil, Alien Isolation etc

It just isn't very good.

As a video "game"?

Yeah I'd agree, Amnesia is better.

A story with interesting ideas? Soma is better and more creative.

But it isn't much of a game really, hell it's kinda dumb that there are monsters in it at all.

yeah this. 2 is blatantly and absurdly over the top, but it's still fun and DEFINITELY has its scares.
