Some people prefer supporting a person with integrity even if their beliefs dont align, especially when the opposing contender has been accused of ethical violations. Integrity may not be important for you over ideology, but it is for some people.

Oh my bad, that was an earlier article when there were just rumblings, this is more updated:

http://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/article219317320.html

Republican senators and candidates, including Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina and Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, and Republican Missouri Senate candidate and Attorney General Josh Hawley have called for an investigation into the leak and Feinstein and her office particularly.

McConnell wants a probe along these grounds:

The ranking member withheld serious allegations from committee colleagues, precluding any chance that they would be handled with sensitivity and discretion, McConnell said

Ok? You asked if any government official asked for a probe and I gave it to you. I didnt see why that was important to begin with. Theres tons of politicians who follow the law perfectly, doesnt mean they cant do something voters may deem unethical, like cheating on their spouse. Feinstein may have broken no law but if she had a hand in leaking the letter, than voters are certainly welcome to question her integrity as an elected official

From your article:

About a quarter of respondents are still undecided in the race, including more than a third of Republicans and 29% of independents.

Clearly it appears Republicans are weighing their options if a third of them are still undecided. But listen, I get you have a caricature of a conservative in your head, so I dont blame you overlooking the data in your own article.
