Strange things happen.

Some years back a guy was calling in bombs threats to a Jewish Community Center, the caller turned out to be Jewish himself.

Can false flags happen? Sure. Give it a shadow of doubt considering the left has a history of getting busted for this stuff. But if your first impulse is "This has to be fake!" then you might want to re-evaluate how you assess things.

That's a bit far-fetched, but a lot of things don't necessarily add up. It's particularly odd that the media hasn't gone completely crazy over it, but maybe they're a bit slow on the uptake.

I'd like to believe it's being downplayed because the media is finally taking the hint that giving attention to these kinds of things is detrimental. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
