Board 8 > I wonder how a second series contest would go

I feel like the first Series contest had a lot of odd choices, and there are a few series I'd like to see in action that I think would be better than their individual parts.

Let's see, off the top of my head we'd now have:
Mass Effect
Dark Souls
God of War
Portal
The Witcher
Assassin's Creed
Uncharted
Batman: Arkham
Bioshock
Dragon Age
Red Dead Redemption
Bayonetta
Gears of War

Plus a few that existed but are now more relevant:
Fallout
Persona
Call of Duty

I feel like Series is something that could have been interesting, but with such a limited field back then, everything was too predictable. In the 12 years since, quite a few series have established themselves, some series have gained a bigger impact due to later games, and there are a few that missed back then that could be decent (Crash, Spyro, etc.) in a 64-size bracket. Of all the previous contest types we've done, this is one I'd like to see back that I see no one else really consider.

Could SMB have won from 2008-BotW? It seems logical on paper. It came close to Zelda's strength near the nadir of Mario's relevance; surely it could have turned around an 54/46 type match once mainline Mario games started being released at a steady rate again.

Yeah, you might get a decent contest out of this if you remove Zelda from the bracket for a champion match, but theres better ideas for contests.

Still better than Years or Rivalry Rumble.

I think it's time for another series contest. The last one had some strange choices as said, and entries like Halo and Smash that had only two entries at the time. It was also predictable, first perfect brackets ever I believe. Retire Zelda (for a championship match) and the new one would be much more interesting. A solid quarter (or more) of the last bracket would not return, and there are new strong series. There are also matches that would now go the complete opposite way like Elder Scrolls vs. Street Fighter.

I didn't do any research on this contest, but I think I would probably take SSB or Pokemon to win. Yeah Zelda is probably stronger but I think either could get the momentum to take it down and you can't win the contest picking Zelda.
