While I don't love Geno as a character I would love to see SMRPG get representation in Smash, it feels like such a unique but forgotten game with a lot of characters/ideas that can be used

I do think that Mallow would be a better playable character than Geno just because of the cymbals, haha

I think Geno could make for a really fun projectile character with all the different attachments for his guns and arm cannons.

And I definitely hope if he's in Smash, we get Geno Blast as a final Smash.

Yeah, that was kind of my thought after my snap reaction to Smithy's Factory.

And it made me think that maybe Bowyer could be a good Assist Trophy, and he could literally disable the use of a button for everyone except for the person who activates him.

Bowyer and his arrows would probably be a stage hazard for a Forest Maze stage. They would probably implement a buried state if you got hit while you were on the ground.

I played it after TTYD and it was wayyy better. The combat system made way more sense and the story was cool. The platforming parts were weird but that's about it.

It's probably best played as your first RPG, but after you've played some Mario games. It deconstructs the latter, while being a really simple former.

It's less that it's overly simplistic as much as the combat system doesn't seem as cool if you've played some newer RPGs. Back in those days all RPGs were menu driven. These days if you've played any of a bunch of different RPG franchises it doesn't really seem uniquely different with only timed hits being distinctive mechanically, as a lot of RPGs will have a way to stand out of their own. That's to say nothing of playinglater Mario RPG games

I think this is only half true

buuuut I do think if you play the spiritual sequels first, SMRPG becomes slightly less remarkable

I've introduced people to SMRPG as soon as a year ago and they loved it

The whole "interactive battle system" is expanded upon and done much better by later Mario RPGs, but those games are much more simpler when it comes to the battle system overall. SMRPG kind of plays like a Final Fantasy-lite sort of game which is really and makes it a bit more unique compared to the Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi games. I would say it still holds up great even today.
