I think the first one does. I still find it funny and entertaining. I haven't seen the sequels since they came out so I don't know about them, but I didn't much care for them back then either.

i liked them a lot when I was younger, but I question if I'd enjoy them as much now so I haven't bothered to rewatch them. I'd rather preserve that enjoyment as it is.

There are a lot of films like that for me. >->

They don't really hold up, no.

The problem is too many pop culture references, imo. 1st is better but 2 and 3 have aged like milk.

They're not problematic, imo, since much of it is dripping with self awareness that James Bond et al lack.

Tons of awesome stuff is full of pop culture references. The problem is that you end up having to show your kids TONS of movie in the proper order for certain ones to make sense to them.

Odd fact about the AP movies. The guy who played Random Task (real name Joe Son) was fairly recently convicted of a rape from back in the 80's. He was caught vandalizing somebody's house and as a result he had to give up his DNA and they matched it to the rape. The victim said that she has the Austin Powers movies and she never even gave it a second thought. He also fought in the early UFC's. Suddenly those ball punches seem justified.

I'd have to say that most or all of the Dr. Evil / supervillain trope deconstruction from the first movie is timeless. I still get a good chuckle thinking about the maniacal group laughter that awkwardly fizzles out scene. Everything else is kind of eh in terms of aging.

Why not the latter two?

Hard to express. The first one was really strong just as a parody, while they started to lean on gags more and more in the later movies. Also the blackjack scene is in the first one, so that's a plus.

Honestly I dont remember much about the latter two but Austin Powers yelling at Fred Savages mole in Goldmember is the hardest any of the movies have made me laugh.

I agree actually. Goldmember just feels like a loosely connected series of skits. Its hilarious, but the first movie was definitely the strongest in terms of narrative and actually addressing the genre it was making fun of.

Though I loved Spy Who Shagged me too. Seth Green is hilarious >_>
