I mean true inarguable must haves, not games that you personally feel are underrated masterpieces. I don't really pay attention to video games much and instead just dump hours into sandbox games, but I'd like to start branching out to other genres. My library isn't very large so don't assume that I have it even if you think it's really well known. I'll let you know if I ended up buying any of the things you recommended.

It's a sandbox game, but Terraria. Probably one of my top 5 games ever, and it has a crazy amount of content for the price.

A Hat in Time is a great 3D platformer if you're into those.

Just looking at what's on sale:

- Dying Light ($15.99): A relatively open world FPS with parkour mechanics and zombies. Emphasis is on melee combat and avoiding stronger enemies, though you do get firearms later on.

- Left 4 Dead 2 ($1.99): A classic. FPS where you team up with three other players and try to fight your way through zombie hordes to the end of each map. The game is broken up like into movies, with each movie consisting of several maps (with the finale being the final hold-out waiting for help to arrive). It also has a fun versus mode where a human team of players controls special zombies and you try to make it as far as you can.

- Rocket League ($11.99): It's soccer, but with cars with rockets. It's really simple but extremely fun and challenging. There are a few fun modes, too (like hockey and a Mario Kart-style versus mode where you get random power-ups).

- Metro Redux Bundle ($10.18 / this is two games in one!): First person horror shooter based on a Russian sci-fi bundle. You have to survive the horrors of a post-apocalyptic world where humanity endures in the Moscow metro system.

- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines ($4.99): One of the best RPGs of all time. Unofficial fan patch is required to play, but there are a couple out there and they are easy to set up. Set in modern day Los Angeles, you forcefully become a vampire and must learn to abide by the laws of the Masquerade in order to keep your life. There are lots of different Clans (like classes) for different playstyles and different story elements. It's a unique setting and the gameplay is still solid.

- Grim Dawn ($7.49): An Action RPG set in an interesting post-apocalyptic world of the 17th or 18th century. If you like Diablo you will definitely like this.

I also recommend two free titles if you want a horror-theme:

- Path of Exile: Another ARPG, with an interesting item/skill system. Basically almost everything in the game acts like an item that you can modify or upgrade for better rewards, and the skills are like materia from Final Fantasy VII, where you can slot them into your gear and swap them out as you want. It has a TON of depth and longevity as far as character customization and loot goes. It does not have a very expansive story though. There's a lot of lore but there are very few, if any, side quests.

- Secret World Legends: A "Shared World Online RPG" (gag). It's a third person shooter where you're a special agent in one of three secret societies (the Templar, the Dragon or the Illuminati) investigating strange occurrences in various parts of the world, including New England and Transylvania. It's online and multiplayer but you can solo 100% of it for absolutely free, and there are dozens upon dozens of hours of gameplay if you like to just explore and do missions. The mission system is also unique - there are some generic "kill # of X" MMORPG-style missions, but there are also Sabotage (stealth) and Investigation (hardcore puzzle solving) missions as well. And even the "kill # of X" missions feel unique because they have good writing and don't feel like chore quests.

That being said, Funcom is a terrible company and there's no reason to pay for anything in that game, so don't.

All of the Legacy of Kain games (except the first Blood Omen) are on sale for like... a buck each. They're all good except for Blood Omen 2.

Cities: Skylines is awesome if you like city builder games. There was just a new expansion and I was playing it again over the weekend. Its better than Sim City by far.

Path of Exile if you liked D2:LOD. Its the better sequel to that game than what Blizzard put out. Although, I suggest you use the non-steam client because DLing updates is easier and why run 2 programs when you can run one.

I second Cities: Skylines for a city building game, and strongly recommend Planet Coaster ($17.99) if you want an immensely detailed theme park game that lets you get all the way creative and has nice management options.

Look up some videos on YouTube to see some of the shit people create.

It's easily the best theme park game of the recent three (RCT World... though that's no competition and Parkitect, which is still a very impressive game, too).

in that case I recommend crosscode. it's an action/rpg with a big focus on puzzles in dungeons. Basically the best game of its genre/style I've ever played. It's what zelda wishes it was

has beautiful pixel art too
