A lot of open worlds are pretty different honestly, despite having the concept of exploration as their common points. In the recent years, you got a physics heavy puzzle focused open world like BotW, you got ones that are dictated by story progression and RPG elements like Final Fantasy 15 or Xenoblade X or DQ, you got ones that literally just prides itself on being as big as fucking possible like Just Cause, then you got like cowboy/gangster sims like Rockstar's open worlds.
Open world isn't really a genre more than just a very base description. It ultimately doesn't say much about the game as a whole outside of the fact that it demands a lot out of the console and takes place in a world that you're usually pretty free to traverse --- "Iwata was awesome" - Mr. Nintendo https://imgur.com/JGJqvwW ...
