Skype interview, lasted about an hour and a half. Was some really good and interesting conversation, but ended in him saying that a traditional appointment wouldn't work because he has no more official appointments to allot, but perhaps a collaborative position between two labs would work, then he could pull it.

So, not a great outcome, but a good experience. Now just n more to go!

Si.


There are various reasons to do a postdoc. The most universal is to build up your publication record to make yourself competitive for the actual job market, professorships.

But, other than that, most don't feel completely ready to run their own lab straight out of grad school. Meaning the postdoc builds confidence and a rigorous research platform. Others, such as myself, use it to build additional skills as well. I have a bit of training in nonhuman primate work from undergrad, but most of my training in grad school has been human neuroscience, so I'm looking to build more animal methods.

Thanks, i'm not really done yet, but expect to be done in May. Still have to get out a couple of papers and write up that whole dissertation thing haha.
