I have a feeling that one of the champions from BOTW is going to get a DLC slot, probably Urbosa with a Gerudo Town stage. I also think that if this is Sakurai's swan song he's going to throw another Kirby character in as DLC. So here are my guesses

There's no reason to think this is Sakurai's last Smash game.

Dante and Bandana Dee are plausible. Sora depends on Disney, so who can say there. I doubt Zelda will get another character in, but I've been wrong before.

My instinct says an unannounced Gen 8 pokemon is possible.

Bandana Dee isn't going to make it in because Sakurai pretends that the Kirby series ended when he stopped making them. Yeah, he originated in Super Star, but he became prominent after Sakurai left.

The saddest thing about Piranha Plant being a character is that it's going to sour Bandana Waddle Dee's chances to be a character. I think they'll take note at the bad reaction to a common enemy being made a playable character, but that's a shame since Bandana Waddle Dee is so much better.

So, I completely forgot that the Isaac AT was in Brawl, not 4, and was actually removed in 4. That probably explains why they waited so long to show it, since it's got a new design and does more than the previous AT did, and is back after missing a game.

Looking at the Smash wiki, here is a list of pre-existing modes that are not returning in Ultimate (or at least, have not been confirmed to return):

Break the Targets - Expecting unique ones was too much IMO, but I would have liked a few stages like Brawl had.
Board the Platforms - This was a pipe dream anyway, hasn't been around since the 90s.
Home-Run Contest - Sure, it's been done to death, but it just feels wrong to not have it.
10-Man, 3-Minute, 15-Minute, Rival, Endless - Meh. Not sure anyone is really going to miss these.
Boss Rush - Might be accessible via World of Light
Trophies (and anything associated with them) - This sucks, but I'll survive.
Stage Builder - The one that really hurts, at least for me. I had a lot of fun with it in Brawl.
Masterpieces - You can probably play most of them via the Switch Online NES games anyway.
Smash Run - Never played it, but heard it was pretty good. Would have liked to see it return.
Special Orders - Meh. Will not be missed.
Smash Tour - Removing this was actually an improvement IMO.

No stage builder doesnt bother me. There isnt a stage that you can build thats better than some of the better 30-40% of stages. Mostly meme shit anyway.

In Japanese Sakurai straight up said this mode does not tell a story.

He said in the English version something along the lines of "the rest is up to your imagination". So I imagine we get an initial cutscene and maybe something in the end and that's it. Then we can all make the rest of it ourselves.

The main Spirits mode (the non World of Light one) basically is event mode, but you unlock spirits in it. It's the same idea, though. Quirky, character-based challenges.

My DLC predictions, keeping in mind that he promised no echoes (at least not in the season pass)...

1. A Square character. Most leakers were saying there should have been a second Square character, even Kencineroar leakers. It's a big part of the reason many people disbelieved the box theory. Geno is probably most likely due to Sakurai's previous acknowledgement of requests for him, and being a part of the Marioverse. Sora is second most likely, but moves to the top if KH3 and/or TSSF is secretly in the works for Switch. Squall is a distant third.

2. A Namco rep. They worked on the game again and are itching for a second character. Lloyd or Heihachi will be in. IIRC Heihachi was considered for Smash 4, but Lloyd has stronger ties to Nintendo and I'd venture to say did better on the ballot. Outside chance it's Yuri to tie in with Vesperia HD.

3. One of the Fire Emblem: Three Houses protagonists. My money is on Edelgard, and I would welcome her with open arms. FE had very few axe-wielding Lords, and Smash has NO axe users. Despite the backlash she would receive because "fuck teh fiyer amblum" she would be a welcome addition to the roster.

4. A Generation 8 Pokemon. This is a given. Without seeing any designs, my initial hope is that it is the fully evolved grass starter to go with Greninja and Incineroar.

5. A retro character. Here's why I believe that. First, I would imagine some of the DLC are going to be characters that were planned for the base game but cut to make the release date. And that plays into my next two points. The lack of a retro character in this one was baffling and unprecedented. And Sakurai heavily promoting the season pass, stressing to trust them that it will be worth it, makes me think that at least one character will be hard to sell on their own. With that in mind, two obvious choices, Takamaru and Sukapon, are off the table. And honestly long, long before the Grinch leak I've been kinda hung up on Mach Rider getting in a Smash game someday, so I'll stick with him.

I'd be surprised to see Geno or Lloyd. Neither is relevant anymore. I bet that Square in particular is a huge pain to work with--notice how all of the third party franchises have tons of content in Smash 4 except FF, which just has a character, a stage, and two songs. I'll bet they'll want to advertise something current, like BD or modern FF.

Speaking of Mach Rider, do any of the Assist trophies use a gun like the one on the mech Sakurai bought? None of the new characters use anything like that, so I wonder what he bought it for.

I'm also pretty confident that the Square Enix rep is a DQ Slime. The series is too big in Japan to ignore and Vergeben has always said it's a "Square-Enix" rep as opposed to a "Square" rep.

I get the Pokemon not being DLC too now that you mention it because while Mewtwo was a pokemon it was more of a fan service thing. Also, Pokemon only has 1 new character per game. For this game it was Incineroar. My other thought is that they knew everyone they wanted to add for the game.

Assistant Trophies that use guns: Sheriff and Rodin. I think that's it.

I could see Slime AT.

I don't think they have any idea what they're doing in terms of order of reveals. You don't end with Incineroar and Piranha Plant. They should've ended with Ridley or King K. Rool or something.
