You should've negged them and told them how the job was beneath you. That would have gotten them to be defensive and explain why you were the perfect candidate

To be honest, I'd be offended, but that's just me. I'm all about keeping my word. Which this seems to be a lack of. Same with the employers who tell applicants "no matter what we'll call you next week", and never call.

I wish the same logic we apply to cars and houses could be applied to work. When you pick up a car/buy a house, they tell you never to make an immediate decision. Look around, sleep on it, then come back and make a rational decision a couple days later. If you've gone through the entire list of applicants and you still feel strongly about the one you chose prior, then by all means, choose that one.

i just don't understand how they found someone that is perfect. we all did one round of interviews (~10 candidates). they are legally not allowed to interview or hire from anyone else not in the pool (government position, there are rules for hiring). they couldn't make up their minds so decided to schedule second interviews. then they change their mind?

Don't get offended

Figure out what you did wrong and correct it so this doesn't happen next time.

Oh and you better hope it was something you did wrong...because at least you can fix that. If its the universe that has a problem....well good luck with that

They changed their mind yeah, maybe they discussed the candidates again and picked one, maybe they were lazy to do the second round.

Yeah, good luck with finding out what you did wrong. I've contacted multiple jobs after I failed an interview to find out what I screwed up on, always in a polite manner, asking the simple question "what did I do wrong, so I won't have that problem next time". None of them responded to me on what in particular I did wrong.

Companies don't care about you as a person. They only care about filling their quota. The last company I applied to actually kept telling me they would call me back, until I got fed up with it and sent a letter to the manager of the store, who promptly got someone to call me back(who wasn't even involved in the hiring process), all apologetic, saying this will never happen to another person(the putting them off, not the not hiring). Still didn't answer my question, despite me asking it again in call.

So my father(who gets more angry about this than I do) sent a letter to their CEO. I knew the person couldn't answer my question. Companies are more about saving face rather than answering simple questions. Managers are trained in management, not people skills.

They don't want to tell you because it's probably a stupid reason like "he blinked twice more than the average, strong candidate would"

Really how can you get a feel for how someone will perform in an interview? My job doesn't involve talking to people much. It's a completely different skillset from sales which is what an interview is.

i have a job, i'm just trying to switch to a more cushy government job lol. idk what to tell you, interviews are a completely different skill set compared to talking to women.

government jobs are bizarre in how formal they are and the way they are scored (literally a numerical formula). if i wanted to work private again where they don't score interviews on a numerical basis, i'd have an easier time.

One of my friends graduated with high marks in computer science. The only company that was willing to offer him a job was paying less than fucking Wal-Mart, with no benefits.

You really shouldn't just say this as a catch all. There are plenty of companies that care about you as a person and actually want to develop you. Because its in their best interest.

There are some that are garbage, obviously. But definitely not all companies (if that is what you were implying)

No no, not all companies, just the majority of the ones I've dealt with. I'm sure there are other companies out there that do differently, but it's reinforced in me that I want to work for myself.

If you get called back to be turned down for a job, it's probably worth asking if there is anything you could have improved on, with the emphasis on you wanting to do better as opposed to argung over the outcome.

You might not get the job today, but you might make a good enough impression to help you in the future. Possibly even with the same organisation.

Not where I live. Maybe where you live, but we have maybe 3 repair shops for a population of 500k people. So to see one of them offering 12 dollars an hour is just laughable.
