Its not the quality of the game itself since imo its very well made and it seems alot of love went into it. But fuck me man the pacing is so damn slow, i dont really care about the characters and the main character himself doesnt feel veey good to control. I unfortunately didmt like rdr 1 when it came out for the same reason. I thought maybe this game would be different. I guess this series just isnt for me.

Your complaints are super valid. I'm having a blast now though. I dunno what it is. You're 100% correct, the gameplay can even be painfully slow at times. But I dunno I've come to enjoy it way more than I expected to from my first 10 hours.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I wanted to like it, because there are aspects of it that are in a lot of games I like. I guess the Western setting just isn't for me, since I can't get into the world or characters at all. I love games where you can explore and customize and all that, plus a lot of the game is crazy polished, but it just doesn't matter if you don't like the setting. It makes what should be a fun adventure feel like a chore.

How far are you? Chapter one does start pretty slow, and the controls and mechanics they throw at you can be overwhelming, but give it time. It will open up shortly.

I'm finding it a bit slow paced, but I hope it's better when it opens up a bit. I also find the characters really forgettable. It doesn't help that I hate prequels in general.

Honestly, though, it's beautifully put together, and I figure that it'll still be pretty enjoyable.

I feel like the pace of chapter 2 is a lot better. You get more diverse missions you can choose between and you can get into a flow of sorts.

But then again I like stuff like the camp parties and getting drunk in a saloon so it depends on what you care about.

I don't often like doing side content in open-world games, but I've been enjoying it in Red Dead Redemption 2

it's a game that feels slower paced than others on the genre, but it works well for it, and I think that it's been fun

It starts slow but chapters 4, 5 and 6 are fucking insane and some of the best moments I've ever had in gaming. Finished chapter 6 this evening, I'll start on the epilogue later, just needed some time to digest everything that happened.

It is a bit slow paced, but I think its amazing. I like the attention to small details. I like most of the tedious shit like gun upkeep and horse bonding. It creates a legitimate emotional attachment. I accidentally backed a stagecoach over my horse and I was horrified. I thought I killed him. Luckily he got back up and I gave him a carrot and brushed him off.

I put too much love and effort into Nightmare just to have him killed off randomly.

To me it feels very much like a niche title, and just so happens to hit a lot of the areas that I personally look for in immersive open world games. I've been wanting something like this for years, but I never expected it to come in the form of a AAA $750 million opening week game.

It's weird, but I find all the mundane stuff super engaging. When I have to camp somewhere, the first thing I do in the morning is make coffee and smoke a cigarette. I feed and brush my horse. I leave the fire going until I'm ready to leave. It's inconsequential to the game but means so much from a role playing perspective

im in chapter 2 and not really enjoying the game much so far.

there are too many little sub systems and meters to monitor and all that. i appreciate the detail but even stuff like riding a horse is annoying to me because i need to remember to pat the horse if it freaks out, i have to monitor its stamina bars, i have to keep it groomed, be conscious of the weight, make sure to hitch it, level it up so i can call for the horse from afar, etc.

likewise controls are obnoxiously complicated (i feel like i've used every single button on the controller to pick up items at different points) and there are so many little sub menus and inventory screens and shit.

all this makes for a pretty cool tech demo but as a game i'm finding myself getting kind of bored and frustrated with how the game is designed. nothing is intuitive and i can't really tell yet what is important and what is just for fun.

these little details and sub menus and contexual buttons and all that make for a very cool gameplay youtube video, but in practice it just bogs everything down.

i dont really care about the characters

This is probably the main reason why you dont like it then. If your not really invested in the story or characters then yeah I could see how it might be boring.

it's kind of incredible how it's 2018 and rockstar still can't develop a mission that isn't a rigid, scripted piece of garbage to save their lives

Arthur has become one of my favorite characters. I feel the slow pace was necessary to flesh out the essence of the tragedy unfolding through the story. I started out the game wanting to be an asshole bandit and go for high dishonor, as the story progressed and I began to feel for Arthur my mind changed and I became most honorable I could be. No game changed my mind of how I would play the morality aspect because of the story itself, quite amazing imo.
