Also Control is a mess of an ending because it's unclear why you can't "control" the Reapers to fix the damage and then make them fly into the sun.

Destroy is the best ending but that's like saying being kicked in the arm is better than being kicked in the face or kicked in the balls

Synthesis is the best ending. Killing the Geth, Krogan, or Rachni is wrong.

For the ending, we pretty much get told that the Reapers are alive just like EDI or the Geth or alive. They are forced to wipe organics. Making everyone cyborgs means that they are now free and everyone is safe. How is it not a win-win?

Of course the best ending would have been where the secret device turns out to be a gun that fires thresher maws, and Joker is extatic about it being his idea, even with the 90's-style screen going black while he's still talking.

I'd take the grimdark version of "It was all a dream." over a boring nonsensical ending in 3 different colors anyday.

There's a mod (which was made before the extended cut) which cuts out the Catalyst and just jumps directly from Anderson dying to the destroy ending.

And it's still abrupt as hell and anti-climatic but it's absolutely remarkable how much simply removing that awful character improved the ending.

I view the Indoctrination Theory in the same light.

So it almost certainly wasn't intentional but I found the way it soat you back out on the Normandy surreal as hell. Especially with the very first thing I heard being "Welcome back, Shepard."

Eh, I don't think the theory itself is bad, I think the ending itself is stupid and the theory served to actually provide a reasonable explanation as to why they decided a "what's behind door number 3?" ending would be appropriate to a trilogy marketed for its decisions with enduring consequences approach.

I think the fans were just working with what they were given...

yeah, i know they think that. what they were given was shit. so they tried to dress it up. make a shit sandwich out of it. throw on some kale. some chipotle mayo. instead of just accepting the shit for the reality that it is.

I don't get what's so bad about the indoctrination theory. I also only finished 1 and made it about halfway through 2 so there's that.

Again, I think the underlying problem is with the writing of the game itself, and the fans were just trying to somehow salvage what they could of it based on the information presented in the story.

No way. It was just fine. The ending being "choose whatever you want" was stupid. It felt like some asshole just thought "casuals will whine about having to go make choices again" and dumbed it down, which was sad, but it's fine.
