Not necessarily your first fighting game, but if it's your first time playing that particular game.

I am a spammy noob, lol. I find one attack that works ok and spam it until the enemies wise up. In SC (1), I picked Kilik and just did that jump slam attack over and over until my cousin, whose game it was, died. It worked for both rounds. Lol. He never even got up once.

To get through single-player in MVC2, I spammed Tron Bonne's rock throw move. It dealt awful chip damage against blocking opponents but it didn't even matter because the AI's would just block the whole time and I would be untouched.

And of course I picked Yoshimitsu and spammed the door knocker. When I had played a little longer, I swapped to the hunting shark or whatever it's called.

in SF2 on SNES i would just do a jumping heavy kick followed by a sweeping low kick and then mash buttons til they recovered, then backed up hadouken'd then did it again.

Spamming Xiaoyu's low double-spin-kick move.

It worked even against equally-noob Eddy / Christie spammers, somehow. :O

SF2 Turbo on SNES was the fighting game I really cut me teeth on.

early noob tactics was jumping fierce kick, crouching fierce kick ad infinitum.

next level noob tactics was turtled hadoken with hurricane kick when they got close.

level 3 noob tactic was with guile and holding back and down the entire time except when you sonic boom, and flash kick whenever they get in range.

final stage noob tactic was m. bison psycho crusher back and forth across the screen, maybe a scissors kick or flying head stop for good measure every now and then. but mostly just psycho crush forever.

That's one thing to be said about Smash. Even if everyone playing it was bad, there weren't "dominant" strategies.

Whereas when my friends and I started playing SC2, there were tons and tons of different cheese moves you could do to lock someone who doesn't know better out.
