Cleric or Red Mage sort of classes.

I hate not having access to magic, healing, and armor/weapons all in one.

In vidya, assassins. Not even by choice, it's just I always tend to go the most efficient route, and it always ends up being assassin.

In tabletop, I'll try to be something original. I was a half-orc oracle fated with becoming a tree in my last short-lived run. Gave him a rough cockney accent and everything.

Pet class. Then, after about an hour playing I'll reroll to a warrior type class since pets don't keep aggro, die too easily, and most importantly, I get bored having my pets do the work when I want to get in there and just smash things.

If it's an MMO, I'll go for healer.

I made the tamer class in Wakfu before my guild collapsed to irl stuff. Never got it far, but I want to come back to it one day. Its' the only mmo I know with that pokemon trainer mechanic.

Magic user. Usually a more supportive one, though not really a healer, but I love nuking for huge numbers as well. I'm especially partial to ones that combine divine/white magic or faith-based spells with arcane/black magic or intellect-based spells.

I tend to choose a sword and board character assuming I'm going to do it more than once, because that's always a good place to start. Magic/thief builds tend to be more particular and complicated to build.

not a totally strict rule but I first tend to pick any sort of "dark" caster like a necromancer or warlock or anything like that
if that's not available then most likely a rogue/assassin
followed by a melee caster if available or just any other mage class
then finally the class I almost never pick is the generic warrior type

my main in wow was a warrior but I can't think of any RPGs where I got far with or even picked a warrior class beyond just trying them out
