Continuing the trend of Ocarina of Time polls on this board. Appropriate given that Ocarina of Time turns 20 later this month.

I'll say Barinade. It feels like the most engaging boss battle, where you're timing your boomerang throws just right, fending off the giant jellyfish things, dodging the spinning Barinade, and dodging the lightning bolts it shoots at you.

After wheigting design, battle and atmosphere, I have to give it to King Dodongo.

Btw, who else was shocked by the sheer size of the thing and ran away like crazy first thing in the battle? Best "Ooooh shhiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!" moment of the game imho. lol

I think Bongo Bongo. I like all of them, though. They were pretty fun. Also, I like the story the manga gave to Volvagia...

I never really had a favorite among OoT bosses, sadly. Even the better ones were like "Oh, this is a neat idea... aaannd it's old already."

Really. They seem to finish really quickly. Like before they even have a chance to get old... At least, thats how I feel, I guess...

Find way to stun, perform stun, hit several times, rinse, lather, repeat. Like, maybe Phantom had the extra step of the already obligatory tennis match (thanks to aLttP and LA) between the arrows and the actual hitting for damage, but that was it with little growth to the arrow shooting phase. Twinrova had a second phase where, once you figured out the main mechanic, you realized there was no other mechanic the remainder of the fight; and a first phase that took away the hitting for damage until the phase transition came. Every fight just followed that formula, and Phantom was maybe the biggest outlier in regards to the boss doing more as the fight progressed. It doesn't help in the final battle when the stun can be skipped by rolling beneath the big guy's legs.

Just... that formula made the bosses all feel old, no matter the mechanic, and the mechanic did a poor job growing. Stun three or four times by doing X action, hit Y number of times (usually around ten with relevant sword, total), grab macguffin, move on.

What I mean is the fights were usually over pretty fast. Most games have boss fights where you hit the glowing spot or find the weak point. It can get old quick for any game. Not just a Zelda games. But I mean that with this game, the boss battles seemed quick. Stun like 2-3 times and its over. I feel like thats barely anytime to get old. Especially the first play-through. Any play through a afterwards, mostly likely depending on the person...

And what I mean is that they're essentially different flavors of the same fight. Barinade, Phantom, and Twinrova are the ones that change it up most, but even they boil down to the same formula of the other bosses, and that's being kind to Phantom who has the extra tennis match and additional, faux portals to try throwing you off. Every other boss goes fast, sure, but they're still the same aside from the stunning method. Do the thing, hit the boss, repeat without any growth to make the thing harder (unless Phantom).

I guess. I dont really see any difference in those vs other certain game bosses. But I guess so. Idk...

I guess Ganon? It's kind of lame if you know the rolling through the legs trick but most bosses are pretty lame without even needing a trick. The atmosphere is cool and the stakes are high (you can take a lot of damage if hit, it's easy to waste magic if you don't know what you're doing, if you die you have to redo the tower collapse part). Plus the way you finish him is awesome.

Conceptually Twinrova might be my favorite but it's mostly easy. Like Ganon though, IIRC for that one it helps not to Z-target, which I kind of like. It forces you to think about the game in a different way beyond just what item to use.

I don't see the issue with the bosses. You have to avoid their attacks, do X thing for an opening and then attack them when they're vulnerable. That's like every boss ever made. What differentiate them are their attack pattern to avoid and what you have to do to make them vulnerable.
