choosing worst students over the better ones just because schools don't want to look racist. In order to solve this bullshit just have the student who want to go to the college get assigned a number with nothing else identifying them. Do this process online with email instead of real mail. The schools look at the grades, etc. then if they get accepted then they can get the students info like name and race/ethnicity. I don't want dumber students getting accepted over smarter students cause the dumber students could become a doctor or surgeon and could fuck something up.

This is why companies shouldn't need to fill a diversity quota.

They don't become a surgeon unless they're qualified. Trust me, AA is not why you won't get into the college of your choice.

Would totally agree ... except that racism has to stop existing on all levels. For example, the 'best' right now are likely those who had the most advantages growing up and without affirmative action, racism can exist at one level and basically guarantee that people of specific groups can not succeed in a vicious cycle.

Fun fact about that:

I won't say its name because I know people who work there but there's a businsess school in the UK that only accepts incredibly acedemically bright applicants from around the world. That is now literally 50% full of Chinese people.

And some of the Chinese parents are actually mad at the school because they paid a lot of money to help move their young adult kids there to get a global experience in education only to discover 50% of the other people there are all from China.

And I'd say the real issue is that we assume that every single person has the exact same advantages and is born into the exact same situation completely devoid of any racism or bias before they get to this point. It's easy to say, "everyone should be treated equally" after everyone you are competing against already had far more disadvantages than you. These are bandaid solutions, but until the entire system is completely overturned, it's the best solution we have.

Diversity quotas fucked me out of a trade school job. A guy on the inside told me they hired all minorities despite me getting the top score on the entrance test. Out of the 20 they hired only 4 are still there after 2 months because none of the others have their own cars or kept calling with vs excuses. They must have gotten a nice tax break though.

"best students" is a very vague category. the college application and acceptance process is, ultimately, overseen by humans. humans have biases, and diversity quotas are one way to ensure that their biases do not have an overly large effect on the overall demographics of the students they accept.

I believe this is a completely disingenuous argument. never before have I ever heard anybody argue that, but I constantly see the counter argument(such as this one) for that. sounds like a straw man, tbh.

I have even asked for names and groups for me to even be able to Google and search on my own, but I'm never given any leads. just people who eventually deflect, disappear or claim it was "implied" somewhere that they'll never back up with anything.

the real issue is that there are many issues. as long as people are willing to sacrifice their own integrity/morals/beliefs for the sake of "winning" in some way, I expect disingenuousness, dishonesty, disregarding of nuance/context, deliberately misconstruing the point of other people's words, deflections, dense responses in response to critical thoughts, etc...

In the end it doesn't matter. Successful people will still be successful no matter what college they go to, and maybe some colleges will lose out on future donors.

I agree Affirmative Action is racist and wrong, but it is what it is and it's not worth caring about IMO.
