Its going to be awesome. I feel sorry for the people who have decided its going to be bad because *gasp* they deviated from the system WITH A SIDE GAME.

It doesnt matter what youre doing. If you tell yourself youre not going to like something, then youre not going to like it. On the other side, people who put games on pedestals before theyre released are often disappointed (I saw a lot of this with RDR2 and I fully expect it with Kingdom Hearts 3).

People have the right to spend their money how they choose to. I think it's trash so I'm not buying it

from what I understand you dont have to fight to capture pokemon. it's like Pokemon Go. you see the pokemon and just toss a ball and it goes in. everytime. no difficulty at all. no challenge

it is kinda weird that you can't transfer any newer pokemon to it. I mean, I see why but there's several pokemon in the first 151 that are only viable with the evolutions they get in later generations.

It hasnt even been released, though. All we know is what people are telling us from other countries. If you try it, you may like it more than the other games.

I preordered it. I'm looking forward to it since you don't have to grind on wild pokemon and the master challenge thing seems like it could be fun

Or maybe they just don't want to spend their money on a game that doesn't look appealing to them on the chance that "they actually might"

It's more than that.

Abilities and hold items have also been removed, and there's no breeding at all, which means Pokemon lose out on egg moves. Effort value training has been simplified into feeding your Pokemon candy, and the nature of wild Pokemon can be determined by talking to an NPC.

The first two are the biggest complaints -- without abilities, a lot of Pokemon lose their niche and gimmicks, examples include Mega Khanga for instance losing Parental Bond, and Venasaur losing Thick Fat. Pokemon like Marowak also don't benefit from their exclusive items since hold items are gone, making them dead weight, while others will suffer the loss of items in general, a la Chansey and Eviolite.

Since it only has the first 151 Pokemon in it + Meltan/Melmetal, what it means is, as far as competitive goes, everyone is going to be using the same exact team because only a very few are going to be viable.

Pair all this with removal of wild Pokemon battles, as well as the fact that the game forces you to have a type advantage before taking on gyms, and you can see why it suddenly becomes a concern.

What people are mainly worried about is that this oversimplification of the mechanics will spill into the main series somehow, which has already suffered from dumbing down enough as it is.

To be fair, Natures/EVs/IVs are ass mechanics to deal with in the normal games and an unnecessary barrier into competitive battling. It's literally just a timesink - just because you know how to grind for EVs or breed for IVs/Nature doesn't mean you'd be good at competitive, so I never saw why they would be handled as they've been. >_>

It takes like 20 minutes in the latest games. 10 back when horde battles were a thing. And if wasn't for competitive battling, the Pokmon community wouldn't exist cause then there would only be the tcg to get behind.

For all 255 points? Because you could always raise the EVs up to 100 using protein, etc.

Near as I can tell yeah. You can't get reliably get EV's if you can't do wild battles after all.

The only barrier in the way of competitive is Gamefreak themselves. The mechanics behind these things have almost never been elaborated upon in game, at least not in a way that makes any semblance of sense to anyone not already well-versed in competitive stuff.

They refer to Effort Values as Base Stats, but they don't tell you where or how to get them. They put in a limit on how much you get from vitamins in single stat, they gave people Super Training to increase them but didn't explain how getting base stats effected your Pokemons stats in any way, then proceeded to take super training away in the next gen.

They give people hyper training in Gen 7 to insta max IV's, and yet don't explain what those are in any way. They never explain how those are passed on through breeding. They never give us exact values on anything, just arbitrary graphs that no casual player would ever understand.

They've essentially kept those things hidden from everyone who didn't bother to look up what they were on Bulbapedia or Serebiil. Gamefreak has been dumbing shit down because people don't seem to understand it, yet fail to realize that they never explained it in the first place.

What is the logic behind removing wild battles again

the logic is it's a spinoff title meant to bridge the gap between standard pokemon & pokemon go players, so it takes the mechanics of pokemon go and turns it into what it would be if it played like a normal pokemon game to ease players of either into the mechanics and gameplay of the other.

that's what I took from the game though, never looked at any interviews or anything but I'm assuming this is what they were going for
