eh, i don't know how i feel about this. on the one hand, he was obviously a legend and a crucial person for the silver age of superhero comics. on the other hand, is it too soon to say that by all accounts he was kind of an ass to a lot of his employees at marvel (especially jack kirby, who was also very important to the company)?

RIP anyway i guess.

well, the problem is that lee took credit for a LOT of characters/stories/ideas that actually came from other people (kirby was probably the biggest victim of this). i'd say this goes a lot further than "typical boss behavior."

i think bob kane acted similarly when it came to batman (if i'm not mistaken - i don't know much about DC stuff), so you can at least make the argument that lee's behavior wasn't unique in the world of superhero comics, but uh... that doesn't make it excusable.

well, he did eventually start praising kirby a lot at comic cons and stuff. kinda sucks that he only did this long after kirby passed away but it's better than nothing, i guess.

pretty sure lee and ditko never worked out their issues until ditko's death, though.

I think Kane was much worse about it

Like I dont think Stan ever tried to write Kirby out of Marvel history the way Bob Kane did with Bill Finger

at least with kane it was confined to just the batman character, though (right?). but yeah, seems like both guys were being huge douches about this stuff.

Yeah just Batman as far as I know

Kane demanded solo credit for the creation of Batman until after Finger died

in lee's defense, to an extent he was actually pretty open about what he did. he openly admitted his invented "marvel method" consisted of him coming up with a rough outline for a story, the artist fleshing out the story and then lee filling in the dialogue.

just seems wrong to put "written by stan lee" on the comic without giving the artist any kind of writing credit when that's how you cooperate, is all.

The Marvel Method was really weird

Its kind of a miracle that Lee had such good character ideas because his plots are really bad, even for the age

Alternatively somehow rewrite it so he's the one that stops Thanos.

Man, I can totally see this being the post-credits scene, whereby some small thing Stan Lee does is revealed to have somehow set everything into motion that saves the day.

That said, might be kind of hard to film if they didn't already have that idea going in. They'd have to CG Tarkin it.
