I don't know how in 2018 people still ask "Do you need to pay for online to use this game online?" for literally every game that comes out for a system that has paid online.

And then act surprised and disgusted when the answer is yes.

There are still some Switch games that have free online though.

This probably should have been one of them.

You don't NEED a wired adapter, unless you have really crappy wifi

Actual retail games? I was under the impression regular games needed the subscription, and only FTP games didn't.

I'm not surprised or disgusted? I'm just pretty disappointed! Like obviously if pokemon wanted to they could have trading- which has always been free with their cheaper games- they could have made that free. Like as much crap as nintendo gets for charging for peer to peer online, the data used in sending pokemon back and forth is basically equivalent to a character heavy text message, it's 100% reasonable to ask for that feature to be free (not that I expect it)

Edit: I would also accept pokebank being a free feature of nintendo online service! (I don't expect that either)

Paying for Pokebank on top of paying for online would suck
But it's interesting question

Will you be able to buy just Pokebank without online?
Will you get it for free if you pay for online?
Will you need to pay for both....?

Oh, yeah. It's reasonable. Just shouldn't be expected. I should clarify I wasn't specifically referring to you, your post just reminded me of stuff I've seen elsewhere, and it's just like... People, if a company starts charging for their online service, you should just naturally assume their first party online stuff will need that service.

I also have a harder time holding it against Nintendo, though, since it's $1.67 a month and the online NES games are fun enough alone to justify that to me.

I think most/all of the still free online games are third parties using their own servers.

I wouldn't be surprised if you needed to pay for both and if pokemon bank switch is also more expensive (with one more feature like trading straight from bank so all the fanboys can fansplain why it's ok that it's more expensive)

Doesn't matter, it's P2P
You are literally paying for a flag integer can be 0 or 1 that decides if you can use online or not
Now if they had dedicated servers, fine, but they don't

Yeah but you cut off the rest of my post where I made it clear I don't care because they offer something with it that I think is worth the price.

I mean are you playing online NES games on a monthly basis? It's cool if you like the feature but I can't imagine a library like the switch's nes collection entertaining me for more than a month or two
