Absolutely is worth playing, it probably has the best story out of all the Dragon Quest games. I can never decide which is my favourite in the series, V or VII.

It's a great game. I have played the SFC version and the DS version. The DS version is pretty nice with the 3D graphics. I have not personally played it, but the PS2 version looks pretty cool too!
