They are all pretty easy to explain.

Geralt is from a huge recent game. The fact that he got in as a 1-seed despite being technically ineligible under normal rules speaks volumes. There was a lot of newcomer hype for him this year too that probably helped him out (hype which helped Magus in 2003).

Bayonetta is from a popular growing series and is the #1 character in Smash 4.

Simon got a massive Smash boost and Castlevania in general has looked stronger than ever this year.

Sub-Zero and Ryu Hayabusa have always been pretty solid in these things.

Pac-Man is the weird one, but there was probably some kind of Smash boost.
