I remember when people thought Harry Potter was evil and corrupting children because of the Onion article about how the books teach witchcraft to children.

I also remember back in the late 90s when I was still going to church, an elderly woman brought in an Onion article and was talking to some other elderly women sitting next to her about how bad the world was getting and using the Onion article to reinforce her opinion. I don't remember exactly what the article was about, but I was trying my best not to bust out laughing. Then she said something like how she loves reading the Onion because they are not afraid to tell the news like it really is. I couldn't help it then, and I did bust out laughing.

Like thats any excuse. And yes, its only because theyre idiots. They go to school, but get told by their parents or pastor to ignore what theyre saying and only put the right answers on the test but not learn the information, because its those liberal elites trying to fool you. So they dont learn to think critically as a child, and then are easily fooled into believing whatever they read or hear and cant differentiate between truth and tomfoolery.

But hey, thats how its designed, and it keeps them believing the nonsense spewed from right-wing news outlets, thus keeping them in their voter base.

If the US hadnt been populated by Europes trash/crazies maybe this wouldnt have happened, but history is history.

I dislike political satire in any form, there's way too much of it and hardly any of it is original.
After Jon Stewart, it was like 'hey look how well this works' except no one holds a candle.
That's why comedy central is in such a shitty state. That's all they push and most of it just isn't funny.

To be fair, sometimes articles from The Onion do actually present a more accurate picture of the world than real news, despite those articles being completely fake. For example, take the following article:
