Meaning you werent actively seeking out a specific one using the standard in-game methods.

In 20 years, 7 generations and countless playthroughs, ive only ever encountered and caught one shiny. Azurill in Pokemon X.

Needless to say my heart was absolutely pounding while battling it.

I've never even seen a Shiny pokemon ever. but I never went looking for them either

two in R/S. Whismer and Nincada.

all the others were either bred in G/S or reset trick'd.

edit: a Magikarp and Swablu in PokeGo, too, I guess. the rest were all during their respective events.

Also I'm pretty sure I accidentally fainted a shiny Zigzagoon I was gonna catch in Pokemon Ruby.

Gold/silver: geodude (it knew self-destruct, too)

Leaf green: slowpoke

X: graveler, lillipup

Sun: Trumbeak

Ultra SuMo: cutiefly, Chansey, Pheromosa (the only pokemon I have soft reset for)

I excluded Gyarados (cause Lake of Rage) and Ditto (I used the shiny ditto trick in RBY)

Iirc 14. Gotten hundreds with methods like poke radar, sos, and fish chaining though. But the pure chance ones were good surprises. Lemme see if I can remember them all.

Wingull, Rhyhorn in safari zone that ran, Venomoth in safari zone that ran like 3 minutes after the Rhyhorn, Ponyta about an hour after the other two ran(yes, 3 random ones in one day), Ralts, Chatot, Nidorino, Chatot, Teddiursa... Now I'm having trouble remembering the rest, but I know it was more than 12, and I'm 95% certain it's at 14 total so far.

shiny ratatta in firered, it was literally the first pokemon I encountered when I got pokeballs it was great

Over 100 all together on Pokemon Go lol.

I think I only ran into and caught one in my entire handheld 20 year career....I would probably think it was a elaborate hoax if not for that one way back lol

0 that I know of in the first four gens, 2 from chaining in Lets Go
almost missed a Growlithe this morning just because it was large and they are also so close in color

friend of mine managed to nab 2 naturally before even hitting Viridian, what luck

First one I ran into was a Mienfoo in White 2, and then a bunch in X since the Friend Safari and I think chain fishing made it super easy.

Only one and it was in Gen 3 Safari Zone. Yeah, I didn't catch it.

Apparently they're super common if you trade online, but I couldn't live with myself knowing I had hacked Pokemon.

I ran into a shiny Swanna in Black 2, fought it, and killed it by accident.

- Machoke (Platinum)
- Smeargle (SoulSilver, got away)
- Onix (Heartgold; I wasted my Master Ball on this guy, was not taking any chances)
- Gligar (Heartgold, breeding; no tricks or Masuda method)
- Gogoat (Y)
- Scyther (Y, breeding; used the Masuda Method, but the odds are still pretty low even then, so I'm counting it)

Zapdos and scraggy.

Was nature resetting in leaf green when the first happened. On third attempt it was shiny and I threw my masterball.

Scraggy was just in the grass in ultra sun I believe.

I also watched a shiny flabebe in y. It was in my first batch of eggs so it's stats we're mediocre.was just breeding for a good one in general.

Geodude and Mareep in Gold (Bellsprout rings a bell too). Salandit in Moon (I created a chain in an SOS battle, but not specifically for a shiny).
