No, I used the word "perspective" which is implicative of that person's experiences.

And skin color and sex are a determining factor of what someone's experiences are.

For example: Women are more likely to be sexually harassed. POC are more likely to grow up in poverty.

Having a president who represents these groups and is likely more aware of these issues is a good thing.

It's not obtuse at all. I've been sexually harassed before as a man, and it sucked at the time but it's not a big deal in my overall life.

Being sexually harassed sucks for anyone, especially if it's something traumatic and/or if it happens continuously. This has nothing to do with being male or female.

It's obtuse because you're limiting a person's policy to purely what they experience as an individual, and not as a member of a larger group.

I meant a traumatic event, I changed the word.

If you live life without experiencing serious trauma, being in poverty, etc. these could still be important to you and it doesn't matter if you "really know what it's like". What matters is that you have the policies you have. Your race and sex don't matter.

I don't think that's necessarily true, because everyone experiences those things differently. Trying to eliminate poverty, improve healthcare, etc. on the policy level is not a subjective matter, it's an objective one.

It is subjective since certain policies will affect certain groups in specific ways.

Tax cuts to the middle class don't benefit POC because they're more likely to be in poverty, for example.

Being a member of that group doesn't automatically make you an expert on these issues, but it does give you a different perspective and it does mean you represent these people at the policy level.
