The lower will trip a background check.

EDIT - Also with either skilled fingers or a small metal screwdriver to act as a pusher, it's literally a sub 30-second assembly.

lolwat. You have to go through the same checks as buying a gun if you're going to buy a lower.

You can buy a decent AR-15 lower/upper combo for $330:
https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar15-freedom-classic-lower-odg-7779347.html
https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-midlength-5-56-nato-1-7-melonite-freedom-upper-with-bcg-and-ch.html

Thinking about buying it as my first AR-15.

It's either I try to make it myself (see post #5) or buy a S&W M&P15 for $470:
https://www.smga.com/smith-and-wesson/mp15-sport-ii-556nato-69

This will be for hobby shooting at the range, so I don't need the greatest-quality gun; just something for fun, which is why I'm okay with PSA/S&W M&P15 lines. I'm wondering if it's worth $140 to get it "pre-assembled", or if I can do it.

You can do it, easily. Just line both pinholes up between the upper and lower, slide the two pins in, and the rifle is fully assembled at that point.

yes, its still easier to just go to a local gun show and buy from a guy at a stall if you need your unregistered gun.

I think you should stick with a pistol, op.
Especially if you have no experience with firearms, let alone have any live experience in handling a firearm...
that's just my opinion though

And you still don't know shit about firearm sales. Unregistered =/= passing a background check. Even most firearm sellers will still do a background check at a gun show. Source - I bought my AR-15 at Wanenmacher's gun show (biggest one in the US btw), did background check at purchase.

not full auto, but essentially the same thing. now tell me how it throws off aim and burns out barrels...

i feel like you're talking out of your ass...

come to virginia, the gunshows are loaded with booths that sell without background checks.

edit: looked it up since i dont know gun laws in flordia. you're either lying or you bought from a licensed dealer since the private sellers dont require them...

Considering you already stated that buying the two receiver assemblies would bypass a background check, and then went on to say that unregistered and bypassing a background check were the same thing, you have less than zero room to accuse someone of talking out of their ass.

Even more, I actually named a (huge) gun show that did background checks at point of sale, what are your sources?

Florida? Really? Try Tulsa, OK. I've never once been to Florida in my life.

The SW MP15 is the AR I have. It's sturdy and a good gun. It's definitely worth the money

fully complete on both? literally pushing in 2 take down pins that connects them both. buying an upper and lower kit? takes a little more work, but theres plenty of videos out there on how to do it. its not hard at all tho maybe a little time consuming if it is your first build. kind of like building your first pc. first time can take a couple hours while you get the hang of it (and are still paranoid you will wreck soemething or install something wrong), but once you know what to do you can get that down to 10minutes.

EDIT: from those two psa links all you have to do is put the 2 take down pins in (which should come with the lower). easy peasy. also dont forget a rear sight or optic. that upper doesnt come with one.

private sales still come down to the seller and states laws. just because they are at a gun show doesnt make the situation any different from someone who looks someone up on armslist or gunbroker.

1. 80% lowers are not technically guns nor are they a functional part of a gun. they still require machining and fitting to finish as well as getting a registration number if you live in a state that requires it.
2. its not illegal to make your own firearm in every state in the country. you just cant sell them.
3. its not illegal in MOST states to also make your own firearm with no registration number.
4. a bump stock is not an internal element of a firearm which is by definition from the ATF (at least it was). it is a device that helps with a technique, one that you can simulate with your fingers, one you can make with a 3d printer and one that a 10 year old can make in their room with $30 in parts youd find at walmart. people want to literally regulate a $30 piece of plastic (assuming you used a 3d printer to build one). and yes a bumpstock in general is shit that will wear certain parts of your gun out faster and kill your accuracy, they also require the shooter to know how to handle the gun since you cant just hold it and pull the trigger, they dont work like that. plus to my knowledge they have been used in ONE (1) crime since theyve been around in the last 10 years.

I saw that same video and agreed. But like I said, no reason to pay the $140 premium if the assembly is easy to do with the PSA! Thanks again.
