"what do you want to be when you give up?"

Considering where my mind has been recently, this line is surprisingly profound. All these years I've convinced myself I wasnt such a failure, a bit behind for sure, but nothing I can't salvage. I'll still have the cushy office job, just taking a bit of extra time, no biggie. But now I'm out there looking for a job for the first time (at the embarrassing age of 27) I realise that there is simply no hope for me. Now the question is do I want to serve hamburgers, mow grass, stack shelves, scrape roadkill off the road etc etc. I have so much shame and regret I can't pull myself together. For the first time in the last week I realised how completely over it is for me.

Jesus Christ

Go to a community college, get a certification in something and get a fucking job.

It's ridiculous how people think if you haven't "made it" by 25 you're doomed. People switch careers all the fucking time.

Yeah, you're not going to be rich. Welcome to the real world, buddy.

It's kinda old when they ask you why you have a huge gap in your resume and there isn't a good answer.

Thats the one thing, yes.

That said, if he goes and gets a degree and then goes straight into the force from there, thats a way in.

It's still not hopeless. He should be working some part time job anyways while he gets his certification or degree or whatever.

And if worse comes to worse, he just needs to get creative. He was caretaker for a family member, he had a back inury, etc. etc.

It is really odd that NEETs exist today as opposed to 50 years ago.

Today there is more opportunities than ever.

You could try to be a youtuber, a blogger, a streamer, do various social media bs, photography, ebay reseller.
Like, if you have no education, why aren't you pursuing one of these?
You can even get pro video editing software dirt cheap like humble bundle occassionaly has it.

Or make mumble rap.

I think these people have deeper issues than hating work or being lazy.

All of these are more luck-based than getting a basic job with connections. What an awful piece of advice to give

Is that why NEETs exist?
You are wrong.

These are luck based to be pewdiepie making millions, but a small youtube channel can make close to minimum wage. That is better than doing nothing.

It's entirely luck-based for you to be making any money at all as a Youtuber or streamer. It's kinda why it's regularly suggested that you don't focus on that as a main source of income. Same with making music

Luck has nothing to do with it (unless youre just talking about viral videos). If you consistently put out videos with good quality and promote your channel online then you can get 50-100k subscribers really easily. Youd make a decentish amount of money from the channel at that point

Yeah and what's going to happen in the extremely-likely chance that it doesn't work out?

At least if you apply to a ton of jobs and even volunteer to have something on your resume, you'll see results

The NEET woukd have a portfolio of work as opposes to absolutely nothing to show for like your suggestion of constantly applying with no credentials.

Also, when applying they can cite the reason for being out of work as trying to start up a youtube channel with actual evidence.

If they made a video daily, it shows they can get up and get to work day by day much like previous job experience does.

What do you have to show from constant applications and no call backs?

Yes you're definitely bound to get a job from putting "Twitch streaming" on your resume

Ever heard of video editing? After having a body of work working a camera, you literally can put on your resume a skill.
Your skill is using the software to edit your videos for a year or more. And you can prove it too.

All the sudden, it is like you been at a real job with tangible skills to show.

I don't know if NEETs talk about this, but it's sort of a joke that if you want to get your first job at 27 or have had a few non-steady jobs and are trying to get your first steady job at 27, you have to justify why you've never had a steady job before.

Interviews are a joke to begin with. For most of them, the honest answer to "why do you want this job?" is "because I need to make money".

If you are applying for a job thay has to do with editing videos duh.
You can even find other youtubers looking for editors. Many of them are kids without degrees; professional editors for others that is.

I guess you just lack knowledge of this subject.

And editing videos for a year is experience. You can show the portfolio and they review how good that work actually was.
