Many of those jobs don't require degrees... its a marketing scheme to get only the 'best' or the 'interested' to apply. Those requirements are to scare people away so only those that really 'fit' the job apply. Its been going on for years; people just haven't caught on to it yet...

Your evidence consists of cherrypicked news articles that follow would-be union tyrants who want to just instigate and get their five minutes of fame. Like I said before, no one who works at Tesla has to work there. With Tesla on their resume they could pursue a cushier job anytime.

Dwelling on a start-up's imperfections in an industry notorious for being difficult to innovate in shows bad faith. You've already made it obvious in the past that your real problem with Tesla or any company is profit. You'd have the same exact position on Tesla even if no one got hurt, because you have an antiquated and irrational view of profit. So you can dispense with pretending to care about Tesla injuries lol.

I mean, if you are willing to write off stories of hundreds of Tesla workers passing out or getting injured as anecdotal and not reflective of a wider problem, there is no reason whatsoever for me to believe that you would care about a personal experience I had as it relates to these broader issues.

Hey, they could work somewhere else. Therefore, why should anyone care if they get hurt? Everyone knows that you can't complain about workplace safety if you work there voluntarily

I'm actually on my phone that I paid for in full when I bought it, the bill for which I also pay in full each month.

Not that that has any bearing on the discussion.

You sure you aren't plugging the phone into your dad's outlets each night to mooch off their electricity?

No, but I'll be sure to reimburse them the whopping quarter per year of electricity it consumes if it bothers you that much.

Absolutely. You shouldn't be profiting off of your own goddamn parents. Especially not as someone who is always whining about exploitation of workers.

You should be paying their bills, not the other way around.

Millennial spending habits have wreaked havoc on companies from golf-equipment makers to razor manufacturers. However, a new study from the Federal Reserve found that millennials are similar to earlier generations except for one factor: They have much less money than Gen Xers and baby boomers had when they were young.Millennials are less well off than members of earlier generations when they were young, with lower earnings, fewer assets, and less wealth, the study said, adding, Conditional on their age and other factors, millennials do not appear to have preferences for consumption that differ significantly from those of earlier generations.

Absurd healthcare and education costs aside, people act like businesses have never failed before though.

I don't profit from my parents, but landlords do profit from tenants. It's funny to see that you're so entrenched in your own propaganda that you equate not being fucked by a landlord with profiting from your parents.

Another thing to consider is that my parents own the property, not me, and if they wanted to kick me out or charge me rent they could have freely done so at any time. I do not wield any power in this arrangement.

Median U.S. home cost in Dec. 1980: $67k
Median U.S. home cost in Dec. 2016: $327k

http://www.multpl.com/us-median-income/table/by-year

Median U.S. household income in 1980: $17.7k
Median U.S. household income in 2016: $59k

Median home cost divided by median household income in 1980: 3.78
Median home cost divided by median household income in 2016: 5.54

Overall, it's at least 50% more expensive to buy a home now versus a generation ago (relative to the growth in wages). Healthcare and education have also gotten much more comparatively expensive. It only makes sense that young people would struggle paying for/paying off these costs and would devote more of their time and money into the things that have gotten much cheaper (electronics and media are the big ones I can think of).

It's no secret that the cost of shit is going up and wages are remaining more or less stagnant :

1TMdIrI

So I do feel like there is a major earning problem for young people, and usually if you want a higher income you need to move to a higher cost of living area like SF or NYC or whatever.

However I think there is also a cultural shift component, since boomers were the first generation to grow up in America's crazy post WW2 prosperity (which is fading). So they used to base their entire identity off of work, conspicuous consumption, etc. Look at pretty much every cultural icon from that era onward and it's all corporations and products. Seems like our gen is eschewing that a bit

It's funny how fucking out of touch baby boomers can be. An earlier post ITT reminded me of this old dude I worked with.

He was in his 60's, and retired sometime in the last year or so. He always likes to boast about how his son went to college and doesn't have any student debt and his son works so hard and blah blah blah. I actually engaged him one day out of curiosity. His son (AND his wife) still lived with him through their mid 20s and early 30s. He didn't pay any bills, any rent, any food, nothing. He drove a hand-me-down car too. They didn't travel anywhere, and from he made it sound didn't have any fun either. Basically his son and wife watched tv all the time and blitzed their debt rent-free.

Like... I'm not advocating for frivolous spending by any means but that just sounds like a miserable ass life to me. Not to mention that luxury of living rent and expense-free isn't available to everyone.

What's fun depends on the person though, though. Having no stress is enough fun for some. Some people would rather rent a movie or play a game than travel, too. Hell, even read a book. Eliminating debt that early, you're still well young enough to do all those things after that point, too.

Edit to fix being tired and stupid currently.

Good post. Sounds like the other guy just wanted to justify his irresponsible spending.
