No, not really.

If I was curious, its been explained for me. Theres a guy who works at a buffet, Hoth collects shopping carts at Costco when he isnt making alts, nearly everyone who wants a universal basic income or pulls the live with roommates card or makes topics about finances or college doesnt have a degree, lives with their parents, and makes $20k per year before taxes.

Theres some posters in the shadows who probably lead normal lives and have higher education, and while I give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume they made an account at 13-15 because they enjoyed video games and now have different things going on in life (as I did...) it becomes very apparent that a very large portion of CE leads miserable lives and has a very poor understanding of how the world works.

being on the internet really skews how you feel towards relationships, friends, family, etc

do irl more and stay away from toxic threads on this place about how shit everything is. surround yourself with positive people and don't fall into the trap of hating yourself

I have a gut feeling this is disturbingly accurate, not only of the people here but really in most parts of the anonymous web(though probably more so because there is a quasi close nit community of regulars compared to the vast endless emptiness of a place like reddit).

I can't imagine this website, or posting online a lot, is healthy for one's general state of well being. There are many studies that point to this, but perhaps the most damning is the fact that the brilliant minds that gave us social media forbid their children from using it.

The confession threads that appear every now and then are also really telling.

I work a lot, sleep a lot. Used to have a pretty active social life until this passed year, where essentially everyone I knew got significant others and stopped hanging out.

I've been alone for months, and now my own family here in Arizona, where I moved to actually help them, have gotten too good for me.

My mental health has gotten worse, and I've never seen more clearly about how my life really is.

There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about wanting to die. I won't do it, but I sure as shit think about it every day.

I moved 1800 miles four years ago, and it's basically been for nothing. I'm worse off now than before I left.

Being alone 99% of my time and completely unappreciated just makes me hate life.

I feel for you, and thanks for the honest post. This post is probably how most of us here really are.

I think we all come here out of some kind of addiction and comfort in our misery. We know the usual people who post in the usual ways and fight in the usual manners like some kind of crazy quasi anonymous dysfunctional family. Even the most hated people like Hoth, are really just that one relative you can't stand but you still keep them around because that's what family does right?

personally I'm trying to get off the internet and not use it near as much. Unfortunently when I do have to use the internet for legit things, I get sucked right in because "let me just see what CE is up to for five minutes.....3 hours later lol"

I think its definitely accurate. Some internet communities its hard to tell because of the how much traffic there is, others its easy to tell because its a tight knit community of 100 ish people. Then theres some that are complete grab bags with people from all walks of life, such as bb.coms misc section. Its about 70% miserable people who are incredibly negative, dont lift, and havent seen a vagina in real life. The last 30% are generally beginner or intermediate bodybuilders who havent been invited to private forums. Hell, the mod staff includes both, a real life police officer, and an actual non lifter neck beard who creeps out and stalks girl users who lift.

Its easy to tell what kind of place this is when theres threads like what did you get your degree in? And it has 7 posts. Its not like people think ha.. ha.. stupid question, Id rather get in a pissing match and mash the refresh button. No, its more likely that 7 users have a bachelors degree or above and the other perhaps 15 users were busy at work and didnt see the topic by the time it got pushed to page 6.

Then theres some absolute give aways like people who talk finances and the housing market and say live with roommates. Yeah great suggestion, except that literally 99% of people in college in the US already do, and a large amount of graduates continue to live with their friends from college or their girlfriend because the rent is too damn high and even if you make good money you dont wanna piss away 1/2-1/3 of your paycheck when you could spent a few hundred dollars and have social interaction on a daily basis. Way to talk out of your ass, cats out of the bag, we know you live with your parents

The internet is a tool, could be used for good or bad. Its great to learn some things and most common sense facts are a google search away, but I wouldnt let social media concern you too much.

That said, this place much like social media or early 2000s YouTube comments, is a window to a world you dont want to be in. One of those look but dont touch things. I think its interesting the views people hold, like the people earlier today thinking girl streamers actually scam people who donate money lol.

Helps you become more insightful and aware of the people you share the world with but dont take it too seriously, its good for a laugh or killing down time at work but nothing you actually want to invest time in.
