Played Sonic today and got destroyed on Green Hill Zone act 3, I just played Sonic 2 awhile back so I'm not sure why this was so difficult. I didn't remember there being 3 acts in the first game though.

I neglected to mention this earlier to protect my pristine image here, but I ended up getting two game overs on Marble Zone. I'm not sure if there's a version with save states, but mine wasn't and had to go through Green Hill Zone three times.

My main issue with the Sonic series in general is that they want you to go fast, but only on their terms. The camera can't keep up or gets in the way and you constantly hit enemies, walls, or other obstacles.

I've been playing more Furi, but I am leaning toward dropping it. I could lower the difficulty, but I imagine all that changes is damage/health related stuff and not its flaws.

I do sometimes have this problem with Sonic too. It happens more in the later levels in those 2D games, where the game sets you up with speed and long stretches of running, and then ends them with a trap/enemy/death that could only be avoided by knowing where to stop running ahead of time.

Gameking has beaten Sonic the Hedgehog.

Replayed it on the Switch with the addition of the spin and drop dash. Wasn't necessarily helpful due to the level design, but definr made it feel better

I'm about halfway through Furi so I probably won't beat it before next months game get picked, but I'll still try to beat it by the end of the month.

oh man, bosses regaining health when you lose a life in furi is just about the worst mechanic I can think of to pad the game length/make things artificially more difficult.

particularly since they have like two attack patterns per life bar and you have to go back the the first one if you mess up and get hit towards the end.

It's definitely frustrating at times. I've beaten 5 of the bosses in Furi. While fighting the third boss, I was doing fine until his last bar of health and had to keep redoing most of the fight when I died. Felt a little time consuming.

I still enjoy the game, but I have to take breaks after playing a bit.

Probably got it for free Shonen, like I did. It's been sitting there and JSRF is nostalgic so I felt like I'd force myself to beat the game by constantly nominating it. Sadly shouldn't have done so for January and held off on noms.

Playing Yakuza Kiwami, of course. I'll probably give Jet Set Radio a chance, since I also have it on Steam for whatever reason. Also have the Dreamcast original (although I never played very much of it,) so I could always dust that off if my Dreamcast still works... It probably doesn't still work. I'm not a fan of bullet hells, so I'll skip Bullet Heaven, no matter what it calls itself.

Gameking has beaten Furi.

Managed to get through the whole game. That final boss was intimidating at first, but once I figured out his pattern, he wasn't too bad.

I'm pretty conflicted on this game. I really enjoyed the gameplay and style of the whole thing, but it could get incredibly frustrating when I had to redo the first several phases of a boss battle just to get another chance at the final phase.

The best fight was against the swordsman simply because the phases weren't long and the fight was much shorter than the others, making retrying less of a pain.
