I'd say for me that the best 3D games are better than the best 2D games, but I prefer 2D in general. Give me pretty much any 2D game and I feel like I can pick up and play it rather quickly, but most 3D games for me take a lot of effort to find the motivation to get going. Though I'm not sure if that's so much an inherent 2D/3D thing or just the assumption that 3D games generally take longer (and therefore might not be immediately easy to find whether I like or dislike).

Yeah, with 3D games, I feel like the game environment is too big to explore, so I don't have much motivation to go through all of that.

Whereas with 2D games, the world is much smaller, and it's easier to pick up, play, and explore. If that makes any sense at all... So I like 2D games more, to answer the question.

No, I just like the games to be made well, regardless of the dimensions used.

I enjoy both. I might give 2D the edge, I feel as though I have poured more time into and completed more 2D games, overall. I am usually playing some of both.

Never played a 3d game but I suspect it would give me a bad headache real quick.

Depends. I love 2D games like Mario, Castlevania and Metroid, but also love 3D games like Mario, Castlevania and Metroid. Lol

2D games are generally better designed.

Isometric is my favorite and can be done well in both 2D and 3D.

I'll always feel nostalgic towards 2D games and still enjoy them to this day however 3D are my preference as they are much more immersive.

I'd argue they're just easier to design. I find it a lot easier to forgive flaws in 3D than 2D.

Think maybe that's snark about how with the 3ds Nintendo started calling what has always been known as 3d, 2d

I face palmed when I read the packaging for my 2ds "play your favorite 3d games in 2d!" Or some shit like that

Mm...I dunno, I think it's genre specific.

Like I think racing games prior to 3D graphics are generally meh.

But 2D fighting games are more interesting than 3D fighting games.

3D. 2D is only for Atari 2600 games pre-1983. There is no excuse for modern 2D games.

I don't think this is necessarily due to the added third dimension, but I think 2D games usually find more innovative ways to get around their limitations and are therefore more fun. 3D games are usually less restrictive in their design, but as a result the developers tend to me more lazy in innovating fun ways for the gamer to interact with the world and just rely on the fact that it is 3D.

Things are interesting when you are limited, a boundary to push is a motivation and direction. In 3D, you are too capable, designers have to make barriers and so are in the mindset of removing options rather than creating them.

2.5D :)
Give me a variety of that.

As stated early on, 2d can be very easy to pick up but 3d can very immersive. Since I love the 5th generation, idk.
Since I just got a genesis, I'm loving 2d atm.
