600 a month for rent = 7200 (utilities included). I live in a cheap basement unit in a BK neighborhood far from the city
My others bills, internet + phone = 100 a month or 1200 a year
Food: averages $180 a month, or 2160 a year
Other stuff like toiletries and other essentials: roughly 600 a year
I have no insurance of any kind and do not pay the pink tax
I have no social life. No drinking, smoking, etc.

At this point I should confess that I did some misleading in my topic title. My transportation needs are subtracted from my paycheck before I see it as I get a tax deductible metrocard.

Well that's all fine and great but it doesn't sound like you get to have much fun in your life. I mean if I can't drink and smoke I go nuts.

Ground beef here is like 5 pounds for 10 bucks and its extremely versatile. 2 pounds of chicken breast for 3 dollars. Pork chops are about the same. Sausage is even less. Thats why i personally was curious what nyc actually costs for food

Na, no recipes. I'm a very boring eater with boring taste buds and generally just make the foods pretty basic. I'm trying to change that though. Been trying to get better with cooking tofu though

I agree, it sounds really high.
Don't have my computer on me, but I did track all my purchases one month once. I should go over it again. But ya, it was those things, plus peanuts, yogurt, various breads/tortillas, pasta.
