Btw, biblically neither are a name.

Lucifer means morning star and was a poetic metaphor for the king of babylon's glory. It wasn't meant to be a proper name.

Satan just means the enemy. It is also not a proper name.

Angels always have a name ending in el distingushing divinity.

Ex: gabriel, michael

So if satan was an angel, his name would end in el most likely unless God renamed him.

Lucifer was originally a Roman God, which was the planet Venus and it is basically translated to Morning Star.
The term was originally used to describe the King of Babylon in the Book of Isaiah, chapter 14, who basically thought that nobody ruled over him, neither on Earth or in Heaven, which God disliked.
A couple of hundred years later, Biblical thinkers thought that since the Babylon King was a morning star that fell, and Satan was a fallen angel, then they must be the same and thereby the word Lucifer became another word for Satan.

A lot of what you probably associate with Christianity is likely not canon. Epics like The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost have added a lot of mythology over time that isn't formally recognized by the Church but is generally left alone (I'd like to think because it's badass).

Well, Jesus said he saw satan fall from heaven like lightning. Revelations has satan battle micheal and get cast out.
So that part is actually in the bible.

I agree though that the poem about lucifer likely has nothing to do with satan. They conflate the fall of the king of babylon with satan.

Jesus for instance is also called the bright and morning star.

Inb4 Jesus is satan

Heh, that sure confused me while singing a few hymns.
BTW as for a name ending in -el, I've seen Helel, though I don't believe it's Biblical.

Tbh, from just biblical accounts, I not sure satan is an angel.

He is a dragon according to revelations. And while revelations is highly metaphorical, that part isn't and even references why he is a dragon.

Accordingly his crime is not thinking he is above God, but constantly accusing the righteous of being evil like accusing Job of cursing God. Basically, he wants everyone to burn in hell before he got cast out and rebuked.

How can he be a dragon though? Interestingly enough, seraphim is a type of angel that is related to fiery snakes. In that sense he could be that kind of angel.

Artists usually draw them as dudes with wings which is kinda odd when the root is fiery serpent.

Also heaven has weird creatures described not as angels but beasts and other things.

The creatures in bayonetta are one of the most accurate representations of the choirs of heaven, for above.
