Yeah Blurred Lines was widely panned. Pumped Up Kicks isn't a happy song really so who cares.

that's a good point. the tone of "Baby" is a happy, cheerful one, which gives the impression that the subject matter is to be celebrated.

Ive always been surprised that Blurred Lines has been singled out so much when there are dozens and dozens of songs just as famous, even from within recent years that are just as, if not more misogynistic

Never understood the Blurred Lines controversy since the song is about wanting to get with a girl with a s/o but recognizing that he can't but is hoping she makes a move first

But then again people jam to songs like Hey Ya and Semi-Charmed Life while ignoring the lyrics so w/e

To be fair, those songs have such killer melodies its nearly impossible not to jam to them on any occasion

Won't matter when you have people crying each Christmas season over the "controversy" of this song. Both sides are completely ridiculous over it and don't seem to realize they aren't breaking new ground with their bitchiness

Talking about how troubling the lyrics of BICO are is like Level 0 Christmas hot take. Probably the only one lower on the list is "My favorite Christmas song is Carol of the Bells".

It's just crazy how every holiday season it blows up to be this massive story that, once Christmas is over, no one gives a shit about until the following post-Thanksgiving time. It's just not a new controversy and I really don't get how people don't remember all the discussions about it have existed for quite some time now.

And the idea of songs getting pulled or censored from the radio isn't a new take at all either, so the faux outrage over that is also just completely ridiculous. BICO, from what I saw, was pulled from what, maybe one station? TC mentions Pumped up Kicks, but that song has been heavily edited on radio and also was pulled from some stations post Sandy Hook back in 2012. This isn't a new thing, it's just something the idiots on both sides are jumping on to push their ridiculous "culture war".

My local radio station still plays "Money for Nothin'" with the original lyrics where they use the F word that's derogatory towards homosexuals in the song twice uncensored.

While I agree with it being an awful word, I'll always hate the radio edit version for cutting an awesome song. It's not even Dire Straits views on gays as the lyrics are literally 2 workers disconnected from that generation bitching while unloading a truck that the writer overheard once.

I was laughing at one of my local radio stations not censoring the word 'bitch' but censoring the word 'hoe' in the same song.

Honestly, I think it's OK to look back on things and understand they were bad. It's the consistency of following these rules that bugs some people...

It took me all of looking at the Wiki page of the song to find an article they cite from 2010 which was someone "As a feminist, defending BICO...", and I guarantee you with some time I could find older ones. Stop pretending as if this is a new controversy

IDK what Pumped up Kicks is. But Blurred Lines and Cold Outside are both creepy.

Baby it's cold outside even has the line "Say what's in this drink?" WTF?
And Blurred Lines:

"I'm gon take a good girl
I know you want it
But you're a good girl"

These lyrics are so rapey and the song deserved the controversy it got.

IDK what Pumped up Kicks is.

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, he won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette, hanging out his mouth he's a cowboy kid
Yeah found a six shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden oh in a box of fun things, I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
And say your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, out run my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
