If the economy continues to falter in 2019, even if it gets better again in 2020 the Democratic candidate will win big.

If the economy rebounds in 2019 and stays good/gets even better in 2020 he will probably win in a close election.

Looking at the margins of the midterms, if Dems field a halfway reasonable candidate, they've got a good shot. Americans rejected Trump in the midterms. The margins of places he needs to go red went blue hard.

I bet you were saying he wouldn't be elected the first time.

Vocal minorities and TV gets people feeling certain that they're right but it's the quiet people who aren't open about their political opinions that do more voting.

They do. The fastest growing religion nowadays is "none"

There's also some countries in Europe now where 0% of children believe in God.

You know silly things like election results don't actually matter to these people, they put "feelz above realz" and because they were right for one election over 2 years ago means they'll always be right.

I hope they keep their confidence up

Margins aren't the media, they're solid fact. People predicting Trump would lose 16 was based on polls. People came out in droves for the midterms specifically to vote against Trump.

They literally are less religious than before. You can find hundreds of stories around the country from church goers that talk about how much more empty the pews are now than ever before. You have dozens of churches closing around the country due to a lack of attendance and an inability to maintain the upkeep of the place. Legitimate polling places like Pew Research cite that religion, especially those millennial aged and under, is dying out across the denominations.

What more do you need?

Not just this but how close the electoral vote was, on top, and how much of a margin he lost the popular vote by. He won the first time by the skin of his teeth, and that was before the entire Russian investigation and before this ridiculous trade war

Trump's inability to "save the rust belt" as he proclaimed he would do repeatedly during the campaign, which everyone knew would be damn near impossible with their current industries, paired with a politician who actually campaigns in and turns out the votes in those regions, will be enough to cost him the election. He won by a razor thin margin in the trio of PA/MI/WI, and it was him flipping a few Dems who felt he might actually do something to save them compared to Clinton, who was always tied to her husband and NAFTA, which DID directly hurt that region. It was also the Democrats not turning out in those states, being that vote totals between the both of them didn't even match Obama/Romney combined totals.

I mean there's a laundry list of factors, like in any election, to why Trump won in 2016. But moving ahead in 2020 they need to keep that region, as there's really nowhere else he could look to gain votes elsewhere. And being how razor thin the margins were, it's entirely a toss up if he'll be able to do so. It's easier to bitch about how you'll fix everything compared to the other side, especially when that person is promising more of the same that you've seen for the last 20 years. It's another thing when you're actually in power and STILL not doing anything to help those people.

A Democratic candidate that cares about the middle class, has a plan for the future, and doesn't push their entire agenda on race, religion, or sex.

And then, this said candidate would actually rally and not ignore certain parts of the country.

He was good at reading off of a teleprompter. There were plenty of times where his teleprompter went out and he made an ass of himself. Trump, however, is able to improv and think on his feet; he can give a great speech and doesn't need one spoonfed to him.
