I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called "Myotubular Myopathy." This disorder, MTM1, severely weakens the voluntary muscles and nothing else. I eat via a tube. I use a wheelchair to move. I type to communicate. I breathe via a machine. I'm 29 and a Communication Major. I spend my days writing video game walkthroughs.

There is a gene therapy being tested on human children with MTM1. The drug fixes the protein imbalance and restores muscle function. It'll be years before I get it.

That is rough. While I have my own share of problems, I certainly can't relate to something like that. Cliches always sound so lame, but all I can say is try to stay positive. A lot of shit in life we can't control. We can at least try to control our own outlook, though. Easier said than done, I know.

Just in general. It is something I often fail at but still try to do. Having had a history of depression, I know it can be a struggle. Look for silver linings and such. Not everything is terrible. Not everything is great. Most stuff just kinda is. It is your perspective on things that shapes your overall mood in a lot of cases. Perspectives can be changed for the better even in bad circumstances. Though you shouldn't feel obligated to be happy all the time, either. Being happy is great, but if sometimes you just want to wallow in self misery, have at it. Just keep in mind that what might be good for short term catharsis may eventually take its toll on you.

Just the act of being alive is something to marvel at. The ability to think and imagine. To communicate with others. Humans have a tendency to focus on negative stuff and we also overlook mundane things that are actually pretty damn amazing. Like just having an opinion on something. It doesn't seem like much, but each person has their own idea about basically everything. Ideas that are shaped from different experiences and different attitudes. I think it is pretty cool. Being a person, I mean.
